Description
The 2021 vintage was a dry vintage, with a hot summer, resulting in early harvest dates. The grapes that make up the Tokyo Gomez-Rojo Cuvée Minami II are two local varieties, Monastrell and Garnacha, grown in the Raja Valley and perfectly adapted to the climatic requirements of the area (read: extreme conditions with hot summer and very cold winters ) and reach excellent ripeness thanks to its great ability to withstand drought. These grapes are used to these types of conditions and a clear trend in viticulture with the current warming is that the indigenous grapes in the area are perfectly able to cope with the drought in this case, in contrast to varieties that are naturally not from the region.
The grapes come from vineyards located in El Valle de La Raja. The Garnacha is grown in La Atalaya - a plot located opposite the winery, on the northern slope of La Sierra de La Pila. While Monastrell has its origins in several ancient vineyards, all located in El Valle de La Raja. The vineyards have a northern location and are elevated. The Garnacha and Monstrell are fermented separately in 11,000 liter foudres and in stainless steel tanks of different sizes. Then the malolactic fermentation is carried out in the same type of tanks where the alcoholic fermentation takes place, and 30% of the wine is fermented in new French oak barrels of 500 liters. Finally, the blend matures together for 12 months in new and used French oak barrels.
The Tokyo Gomez-Rojo Cuvée Minami II is a wine in which the intensity stands out in all aspects. It has a deep red color with violet hues. The nose is very aromatic, full of fruit, with ripe red and black fruits, perfectly complemented by balsamic and spicy aromas, together with toasted aromas from the oak barrels. The taste is expressive, with very good volume and balance. From its introduction on the palate it announces its long passage, with a great mouthfeel that is fresh, fruity and slightly creamy with a very pleasant aftertaste, reminiscent of ripe red and black fruits and spices.

ABOUT CASA ROJO
THE MOST IMPORTANT VIRTUE OF A WINE IS BALANCE” LAURA MUÑOZ-ROJO - At Casa Rojo they make wines with which José Luis and Laura feel identified. They have the luck and luxury to be able to produce in the areas where they have their roots and admire with the two grapes they are passionate about: Tinta Fina (Tempranillo) in the continental climate of La Ribera del Duero and the Monastrell in our Mediterranean homeland, Tierra de Murcia. Recently, the unique white grapes from Ribero - Galicia have been added, such as Verdejo, Albariño and Sauvignon Blanc. The vision of Casa Rojo is clear. “A wine must be a maximum expression of the soil, the grapes, the local climate.”
Casa Rojo has been active since 2010, so it is a fairly young company, but Casa Rojo wines are now available in more than 40 countries, including the USA, Singapore, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Mexico, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, etc and demand exceeds supply. Not surprising because the quality of wines, the stories behind the wine and the selection are downright unique.
