Antão Vaz is one of the most prized varieties of the Alentejo, which until recently was grown almost exclusively around Vidigueira. Very suitable for the warm and sunny climate on the great plains of the Alentejo, reliable and productive, consistent in its ripening. The bunches are large and not too densely packed, the grapes large, with hard skins.

What does wine from the Antão Vaz grape taste like?

As a rule, it produces firm, full-bodied, well-structured wines. Made as a single variety, it has vibrant aromas, with hints of ripe tropical fruit, tangerine peel, and something mineral, along with good structure and body. When picked early, it gives wines with a lively aroma and fresh acidity. If it is aged longer, it can reach a high alcohol content, making it a good candidate for barrel aging. It is often mixed with Roupeiro and Arinto, which contribute to a refreshing acidity.
