Description
Herdade do Sobroso is located in Vidigueira in the Alentejo region. This is one of the oldest wine regions in Portugal. In the beautiful Alentejo, Herdade do Sobroso has a perfect location with its vineyards located on the banks of the Guadiana River and its tributary Rio dos Patos or the river of the ducks. The trademark is therefore the ducks on the labels. It is the perfect setting for ripening the grapes and only a few vineyards have this luxury and this partly explains why this winery can make very fine wines because there is never a water debt. In addition to the fact that there is sufficient water, this region is the only one within the Alentejo that has the influence of the ocean that ensures healthy ripening.
The Herdade do Sobroso Reserva Branco is made from 100% Antão Vaz grapes. With this wine, the winery looks very carefully at the exact right moment of ripeness of the grapes. And when this moment arrives, the grapes are picked by hand and then destemmed and lightly crushed. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel barrels with a controlled temperature for 25 days, after which the wine is allowed to mature further in oak barrels for 6 months "Sur Lie" and then also gets some time to mature in the bottle.
The Sobro Branco Reserva Branco (Barrique Select) has a clear color in the glass with a very light green/yellowish hue. In the nose fresh notes of flowers and tropical fruits. The wine is medium-bodied in the mouth, somewhat spicy and very layered with the complexity of the Antão Vaz which gives the wine extra freshness and intensity. This wine reflects the terroir of Alentejo. This is a real terroir wine and is gastronomically a beautiful glass with refined fish such as a sea bream, tuna or grilled brill. Also a great wine that combines excellently with creamy sauces with rich fish dishes and mature cheeses.
Registered oenologist and culinary journalist Anne-Wies van Oosten recommends this wine with a bouillabaisse with redfish, cod, catfish, peeled mussels, prawns and raw squid rings.
