About Envínate
Envínate (Spanish for "wine yourself") is the collaborative project of four friends – Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos, and José Martínez – who met while studying oenology in Alicante. What began as a wine consultancy in 2005 has grown into one of Spain's leading wine initiatives.
The team works with indigenous grape varieties on unique, Atlantic-influenced terroirs in places like Ribeira Sacra and the Canary Islands. The approach is minimalist and focused on pure terroir expression: hand harvesting, fermentation with wild yeasts, minimal intervention, and aging in used barrels or concrete. Sulphur is added only when strictly necessary at bottling.
The result is wines that express their origins in a lively, honest and uninhibited way.
Grapes & Tasting Notes: Lousas Viñas de Aldea
Aldea means "village" in Galician – this wine is therefore Envínate's village cuvée, sourced from several plots of very old vines (60+ years) on steep slate slopes in Ribeira Sacra, at an altitude of 400 to 600 metres.
The 2023 vintage is again a blend of approximately 80% Mencía, supplemented with local grape varieties such as Alicante Bouchet, Brancellao, Godello, Caiño, Merenzao, Mouraton, Palomino, and Souson. The grapes were harvested by hand, and some whole-bunch fermentation took place in concrete vats and small plastic containers. The wine was aged for 11 months in used oak barrels on the fine lees, without the addition of sulfur.
The style is fresh, open, and mineral, with aromas of red and dark fruit, wild herbs, and a light pepperiness. Pure and chalky on the palate, with lively acidity, delicate tannins, and a long, weightless finish. An expression of altitude, slate, and Atlantic tension.

After the Chingao bottling, there is a creamy and spicy whiff in the 2023 Albahra, which makes it feel more mainstream. It's juicy and aromatic and has a medium-bodied palate, contained ripeness, 13% alcohol and good balance, with some fine-grained tannins. Last year, they introduced some white Pardilla grapes in the blend that seem to have given it freshness and a kick in the palate, which is Mediterranean, with good freshness and a balanced mouthfeel. 67,000 bottles and 600 magnums produced. It was bottled in June 2024.
The Envínate portfolio in the Mediterranean has been enhanced with a white wine.

This has a fascinating nose that shows pepper, dried herbs, wild red fruit and a pleasant, enveloping herbal note. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannins, focused and delineated, with lots of precision and a savory sensation. An outstanding entry-level wine in the region. This comes from multiple plots in the Amandi, Quiroga and Mino areas. Each plot is vinified separately with varying proportions of whole bunches. Aging takes place mostly in barriques with a smaller proportion in cement. Drink now.

To this end, no chemicals are used in any of the Envínate vineyards, all plots are picked by hand, the grapes are trodden and the wines are fermented exclusively with wild yeasts, with a varying proportion of whole grape bunches included. Before maturing, the wines are aged in old barrels and concrete, and sulfur is only added at bottling when necessary. The result is some of the most exciting and honest wines produced in Spain today.
