If there’s one winery that everyone in Bordeaux can agree on, it’s Château d’Yquem. This iconic estate makes the best wine in Sauternes. In the hot, dry 2022 vintage, botrytis set in late in the season, when the grapes were already fully ripe and concentrated. This resulted in a powerful, complex Yquem with sugar levels of 160 g/l – the highest since 1945 – without sacrificing any of its freshness and finesse. The result of a sunny and exceptional harvest year: Château d'Yquem 2022 has a powerful and solid structure.
From the very first moment, the bouquet reveals intense aromas of noble rot – the hallmark of top-quality botrytis. These scents are reminiscent of candied lemon and pear, as well as orange marmalade. Subtle floral notes of lime blossom and frangipane mingle with this fruity character, enriched by the sweetness of blooming lily of the valley. The scent of almond and pastry already promises a rich taste experience.
The attack on the palate is lively with flavours of candied fruit, strongly reminiscent of apricot jam. Château d'Yquem 2022 is rich and concentrated, coating the palate with notes of beeswax, caramel and quince paste. The powdery texture is long lasting, supported by a touch of saltiness and refined bitterness in the finish – which further emphasises the typical candied bitter orange character of Yquem. This is the famous half bottle of 0.375 litres.
