The 2018 Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse is an intriguing wine, as it clearly deviates from previous vintages. In 2018, the Beauséjour is remarkably fragrant and floral, with a compact core of red fruit and a brighter profile than the darker character normally characteristic of this cru. Although quite concentrated on the palate, the fruit is so rich that the typically austere tannins largely fade into the background. Aromas of rose petals, mint, blood orange, and spices add nuance in a crescendo of scents, flavors, and textures that is impressive. This is an exceptionally refined Beauséjour. A brilliant achievement by estate manager Nicolas Thienpont, consultant winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt, and their team. This is a 1.5-liter magnum—even more delicious, more festive, and with a longer drinking window.

About Château Beauséjour

Château Beauséjour was founded in the 19th century and has a long tradition in winemaking. The estate was purchased in 1847 by Pierre-Paulin Ducarpe, who later left it to his nephew, Mr. Duffau-Lagarrosse. Hence the double name Beauséjour (Duffau Lagarrosse).
Location: The winery is situated on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, a region renowned for its excellent wine-growing terroir. The winery overlooks the picturesque town of Saint-Émilion, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Château Beauséjour covers approximately 6.5 hectares of vineyards. The vineyards are planted with classic Bordeaux grape varieties, primarily Merlot (approximately 81%), followed by Cabernet Franc (16%) and a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (3%). The vineyards are situated on limestone and clay soils, ideal for producing powerful and complex wines. The unique terroir contributes to the minerality and depth of the wines.

1. Lamb chops with rosemary, garlic and roasted aubergine
The succulent, spicy lamb complements the rich structure of the wine, while the roasted aubergine accentuates the earthy notes.

2. Mushroom risotto with aged Parmesan and fresh thyme
The umami of the mushrooms enhances the wine's complexity. The creaminess of the risotto beautifully complements the soft mouthfeel.

3. Roasted quail with lentils, bacon and sage
The juiciness of the meat and the earthiness of the lentils combine well with the floral and fruity profile of the wine.

4. Stewed beef steak with carrot, onion and bay leaf
Slow-cooked meat complements the wine's intensity and depth. The aromatic vegetables enhance the spicy notes.

5. Duck breast with cherry reduction and celeriac puree
The slightly sweet sauce brings out the red fruit. The soft tannins and lively acidity keep the whole balanced.

6. Stuffed ravioli with truffle, ricotta and parsley-butter sauce
The creamy, earthy filling complements the softness of the wine, while the truffle and parsley enrich the aroma.
