The vineyards of Bodegas Cepa 21 are one of its greatest assets. They are located at an altitude of between 750 and 900 meters above sea level and face north. Both factors allow the grapes to ripen gradually, giving them complexity and freshness. The project has 50 hectares of its own vineyards on soils of silty sand, clay or limestone, most of them very close to the winery and planted with the clone of the area's century-old vineyards (the purest Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero). The winery is equipped with fully equipped facilities, consisting of a tasting room with a beautiful view of the barrel room, a terrace that is a true viewpoint over a sea of vineyards and a hall with a spectacular window that combines the modernity of the complex with the tradition of the vineyard, Cepa 21 is pure minimalism and efficiency. The vineyards for the CEPA 21 (Crianza) are located east of the bodega in Pesquera del Duero in top terroir at an altitude of approximately 800 meters above sea level and are planted with the finest clone of the Tinto Fino. The wine is aged for 14 months in 85% new French barriques and 15% in American oak. This produces an elegant wine with a beautiful ruby red color, a nose of blackberries, black cherry, strawberry, pepper and incense, still quite powerful and fruity (cassis) in the mouth. Very long finish with now oak and lots of vanilla. Striking freshness. In addition to the CEPA 21, there is also the Cepa Hito and that is rightly a hit. Fruitier and less storage potential than its big brother, but both wines are of unprecedented beauty in terms of price-quality ratio. Cepa 21 is widely regarded as one of the most promising new developments in Ribera Del Duero.

The wine always scores in the Parker and Penin 90+ category. Cepa 21 is widely regarded as one of the most promising new developments in Ribera Del Duero. In Perswijn, the CEPA 21 was voted one of the best wines from the Ribera and was given the predicate Select wine and in the annual overview of Wine Spectator, the wine belongs to the TOP 100 best wines (worldwide).

1. Grilled entrecote with rosemary and garlic
The structure of the entrecote fits perfectly with the powerful, yet elegant tannins of the wine. Rosemary and garlic emphasize the earthy and spicy notes in the wine, while the meat provides enough body to not let the wine dominate.

2. Pasta with minced beef, tomato and grated old cheese
An accessible classic where the heartiness of the minced meat and the umami of tomato and cheese blend beautifully with the full, fruity character of the wine. The acids in the sauce match the fresh core of the wine.

3. Chicken or beef stew with pepper, onion and bay leaf
Slow cooked dishes like a stew bring depth and comfort. The warm flavours of pepper and onion are picked up by the spicy notes in the wine, while the stew combines beautifully with the velvety texture.

4. Roasted aubergine with tomato, lentils and cumin
A vegetarian option with a firm, meaty texture. The earthy flavors of eggplant and lentils complement the ripe fruit and spiciness of the wine. Cumin adds an oriental touch that works surprisingly well with Tempranillo.

5. Lamb chops with thyme and lemon zest
Lamb has a pronounced flavour that stands up well to the complexity of the Cepa 21. Thyme and lemon zest bring freshness and spiciness that are beautifully reflected in the aroma of the wine.

6. Roasted mushrooms with garlic and balsamic vinegar
Mushrooms bring an umami-rich depth that complements the wine well. The balsamic gives a slightly sweet and sour accent that suits the fruity profile of the wine and the garlic underlines the spiciness.

Cepa 21 was founded by one of Ribera del Duero's best winemakers: Emilio Moro. Since 2022, CEPA 21 has stood on its own two feet and is led by Jose Moro (the brother of Javier Moro, the owner of Emilio Moro). Bodegas Cepa 21 is a boutique winery located in Castrillo de Duero, a Valladolid village in the area known as the Golden Mile. A winery created to dream in wine, combining tradition and modernity with a unique and exquisite terroir. A real commitment to enhance the best qualities the land has to offer, choosing north-facing vineyards to obtain wines with soul and a unique freshness. With the Tempranillo variety as its flagship, Bodegas Cepa 21 presents a range of five wines: Hito Rosé, Hito, Cepa 21, Malabrigo and Horcajo. They all reflect in each glass a respectful elaboration of the variety, the freshness of the Tempranillo variety and the know-how and experience of the creator, José Moro.

Cepa 21 was born with the aim of becoming a differential project and was built by José Moro's distinctive ideas, creativity and unique vision. But Jose Moro's disruptive spirit is in large part the result of his ancestors' legacy. More than a hundred years ago, his grandfather chose his own clone of the queen variety (Tempranillo) to achieve the unique character of the wines. His grandson, generations later, followed suit and made innovation one of the driving forces behind his business.

The vineyards of Bodegas Cepa 21 are one of its greatest assets. They are located at an altitude between 750 and 900 meters above sea level and face north. Both factors allow the grapes to ripen gradually, giving them complexity and freshness. The project has 50 hectares of its own vineyards on soils of silty sand, clay or limestone, most of them very close to the winery and planted with the area's clone of centuries-old vineyards (the purest Tempranillo from the Ribera del Duero). The winery is equipped with fully equipped facilities, consisting of a tasting room with a beautiful view of the barrel room, a terrace that is a veritable viewpoint over a sea of vineyards and a hall with a spectacular window that links the modernity of the complex with the tradition from the vineyard, Cepa 21 is pure minimalism and efficiency.
