Description
Bodegas Cepa 21 is a boutique winery located in Castrillo de Duero, a village in Valladolid in the area known as the Golden Mile. The vineyards of Bodegas Cepa 21 are one of its greatest assets. They are located at an altitude of between 750 and 900 meters above sea level and face north. Both factors allow the grapes to ripen gradually, giving them complexity and freshness. The project has 50 hectares of its own vineyards on soils of silty sand, clay or limestone, most of them very close to the winery and planted with the clone of the area's century-old vineyards (the purest Tempranillo from the Ribera del Duero).
Malabrigo is the name given to the most characteristic vineyard. Characteristic of the plots are the loam and sandy clay soils and the extreme climatic conditions with large temperature fluctuations between day and night. All these aspects give great importance to the concept of terroir and help it to reach extraordinary levels and give it character. The top of the Bodega is Malabrigo and is matured for 21 months in French oak barrels. The wine has an intense cherry red color, the wine is powerful and has an elegant nose, with notes of black fruit such as jam, blueberries and blackberries. This is complemented by spicy toasted oak and nobler. The taste is round with strong and structured tannins. Absolutely a sensation and despite the fact that this wine is already in the higher price range, we have found in (blind) tastings that this wine can compete without any problem with wines that cost twice as much or more.
FACT: In the tab 'Attachments' you will find the official fact sheet of this beautiful wine. We will automatically send you this when you order this wine. The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you come to pick up the wine you will often also receive a nice discount . You will see your discount immediately when you choose 'Pick up' on the checkout page. We are located in Dordrecht almost next to the A16 with plenty of parking. Click here for our address.

The spicy 2016 Malabrigo was produced with grapes from north-facing vines at higher altitude and showcases the house style in a cooler year—fresh wines with good ripeness and generous oaking. It's 15% alcohol and reveals abundant toast, spice and smoke aromas and flavors. It's full-bodied and powerful, keeping the freshness. It was bottled in May 2019 after 18 months in barrel.

Ribera del Duero Malabrigo 2021 | $62
This stylish red is thick and creamy, with pretty violet, licorice and mountain herb aromas, plus flavors of blackberry paste, crème de cassis, toast and vanilla. The tannins are firm but fine-grained, working alongside the tang of balsamico acidity to form a focused, supple frame for the generous flavor range as it echoes on the spiced finish. Drink now through 2031. 5,833 cases made, 1,750 cases imported.

Vivid purple. Primary, mineral-accented black and blue fruit, potpourri, spicecake and vanilla qualities on the deeply perfumed nose. Sweet, oak-spiced boysenberry and cherry cola flavors show impressive depth and spread out steadily with air, picking up spiciness on the back half. Sweet, broad and seamless in texture, finishing with excellent clarity and smooth, even tannins that contribute shape and gentle grip. Fermented and aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels.

Glass-staining ruby. Potent, spice-accented aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, candied flowers and smoky minerals, with a smoky mineral quality emerging with aeration. Sweet, expansive and seamless on the palate, offering intense black raspberry and lavender pastille flavors and a touch of peppery spices. Stains the palate on the impressively long finish, with supple tannins adding shape and grip. This wine went through malo in new French oak casks and was then aged for 18 months in another set of new French oak barriques.

De wijn is verkozen tot de 6 na beste wijn van Spanje volgens de Akatavinos contest (de meest belangrijke online wijngids van wereddwijd alle spaans-talige landen met meer dan 1 miljoen leden.
We proudly announce that our Malabrigo 2011 has been recognized as one of the Top 6 red wines in Spain. It was awarded a score of 95.25 points by Akatavinos WineXtreme!
Here is some information about the Akatavinos contest:
Akatavino was born in 2003 with a clear vision: to be the platform of reference for the promotion of great quality wines. Since then, their contents and information were spread through social media and an online magazine that has only grown in popularity. Their only premise was, and continues to be, that the team of professionals, oenologists and sommeliers that are part of the team have to believe in the wines they work with. Their guide, Akatavinos Wine Xtreme became the most important online wine guide for all Spanish speaking countries. More than 1,000,000 users turn to it to decide which wines they should taste.
Excellent interpretation of the concept of modernity in the elaboration of a wine 100% Tinto Fino from the Ribera del Duero. A wine that is capable of reuniting intensity, structure, finesse, freshness and nobility. This is a great wine that will age outstandingly well. A wine that makes us listen to Frank Sinatra, melodic, and that helps sensations flow. This wine won’t leave anyone indifferent, a wine full of aromas that continues to express itself when you let it breathe. Black fruit, good minerality, toasted and coffee hints, some spices and licorice. A wine whose best virtue is a great texture; dense, intense, meaty and yet kind. An authentic perfume due to its intensity and density. Malabrigo tells the true story of the Ribera del Duero.

Cepa 21 was founded by one of Ribera del Duero's best winemakers: Emilio Moro. Since 2022, CEPA 21 has stood on its own two feet and is led by Jose Moro (the brother of Javier Moro, the owner of Emilio Moro). Bodegas Cepa 21 is a boutique winery located in Castrillo de Duero, a Valladolid village in the area known as the Golden Mile. A winery created to dream in wine, combining tradition and modernity with a unique and exquisite terroir. A real commitment to enhance the best qualities the land has to offer, choosing north-facing vineyards to obtain wines with soul and a unique freshness. With the Tempranillo variety as its flagship, Bodegas Cepa 21 presents a range of five wines: Hito Rosé, Hito, Cepa 21, Malabrigo and Horcajo. They all reflect in each glass a respectful elaboration of the variety, the freshness of the Tempranillo variety and the know-how and experience of the creator, José Moro.
Cepa 21 was born with the aim of becoming a differential project and was built by José Moro's distinctive ideas, creativity and unique vision. But Jose Moro's disruptive spirit is in large part the result of his ancestors' legacy. More than a hundred years ago, his grandfather chose his own clone of the queen variety (Tempranillo) to achieve the unique character of the wines. His grandson, generations later, followed suit and made innovation one of the driving forces behind his business.
The vineyards of Bodegas Cepa 21 are one of its greatest assets. They are located at an altitude between 750 and 900 meters above sea level and face north. Both factors allow the grapes to ripen gradually, giving them complexity and freshness. The winery is equipped with fully equipped facilities, consisting of a tasting room with a beautiful view of the barrel room, a terrace that is a veritable viewpoint over a sea of vineyards and a hall with a spectacular window that links the modernity of the complex with the tradition from the vineyard, Cepa 21 is pure minimalism and efficiency.
