Description
Ch. Tour St. Christophe is a château in St. Christophe-des-Bardes with 20ha of vineyard on a hillside, planted in terraces on the slope facing Troplong-Mondot. The Richard-Biès family has been famous in the wine business for centuries, their savoir-faire is passed down from generation to generation. At the beginning of the 20th century, Denis Biès founded Château Saint-Christophe. After WWII, his granddaughter married Gilbert Richard, who continued the tradition of the independent family business. Now, fifty years later, their son Jean-Claude, wine broker, and their grandson Frédéric, oenologist, run the estate in the same spirit.
This elegant blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc from the fresh 2021 vintage shows a perfect balance between refinement and character. The wine opens with aromas of black cherries, dark olives and minerality, complemented by spicy notes of chili chocolate and a subtle salty touch. Fresh and lively on the palate, with a medium body, fine tannins and a long, tight finish. A classic Bordeaux with a modern, energetic twist.

1. Entrecote with rosemary potatoes and roasted mushrooms
The structure of the meat and the fat content combine nicely with the fine tannins in the wine, while the earthy notes of mushrooms accentuate the mineral and spicy sides of the wine.
2. Baked ratatouille with thyme and garlic
The hearty, slow-cooked vegetable dish complements the fresh character and spicy complexity of the wine, while the tomato and aubergine enhance the fruity notes.
3. Grilled lamb chops with lentils and mint yoghurt
The lamb complements the structure and dark fruit of the wine well, while the lentils and herbs provide depth and balance without being overpowering.
4. Roasted beet salad with goat cheese and walnuts
The earthy sweetness of beetroot and the creaminess of goat cheese combine beautifully with the fruit and acidity of the wine, creating a surprisingly fresh combination.
5. Chicken in red wine sauce (coq au vin style)
A classic match where the wine plays a role both in the dish and alongside it. The combination of chicken, bacon, onion and wine sauce perfectly matches the structure and the layers of flavour of the wine.
6. Beef tataki with sesame-soy dressing and pickled radish
The short seared beef tenderloin with Asian accents gives an exciting tension between freshness, umami and structure. The wine remains upright thanks to its acids and refined tannins.

Parker
The 2021 Tour Saint Christophe has turned out very well, delivering aromas of cherries and sweet berries mingled with hints of loamy soil and sweet new oak. Medium to full-bodied, pure and lively, it's elegantly muscular, with powdery tannins and a penetrating finish.

From: 2021 Bordeaux: L’Enfant Terrible (Feb 2024)
The 2021 Tour Saint Christophe turned out beautifully. Dark, supple and engaging, the 2021 offers up copious dark fruit, leather, licorice, chocolate, spice and tobacco. This ample, heady Saint-Émilion delivers the goods. In this vintage, Tour Saint Christophe is not quite as opulent as it can be, but that is not a bad thing at all. It was aged 20% in foudres Tasted two times.
