Description
Ch. Tour St. Christophe is a château in St. Christophe-des-Bardes with 20ha of vineyard on a hillside, planted in terraces on the slope facing Troplong-Mondot. The Richard-Biès family has been famous in the wine business for centuries, their savoir-faire is passed down from generation to generation. At the beginning of the 20th century, Denis Biès founded Château Saint-Christophe. After WWII, his granddaughter married Gilbert Richard, who continued the tradition of the independent family business. Now, fifty years later, their son Jean-Claude, wine broker, and their grandson Frédéric, oenologist, run the estate in the same spirit.
The Château Tour Saint-Christophe Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is tight, with a beautiful balance between finesse and focus. Mineral and salty notes come to the fore, with an extremely refined mouthfeel and polished tannins. The finish continues endlessly. It harmoniously combines power and refinement. The blend consists of 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc, which provides both depth and elegance. This Saint-Émilion Grand Cru has an excellent price-quality ratio.

The 2020 Tour Saint Christophe opens in the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, raspberries and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively and pure palate that's rich and fleshy, with generously extracted tannins asserting themselves on the finish. It's a modern, crowd-pleasing wine from clay-rich soils opposite Troplong Mondot in the commune Saint Christophe des Bardes.

So much black fruit, black walnuts, blueberries, wet earth, black truffles and some graphite. Medium to full body with lots of tension and focus. It runs very long with a salty undertone and some bitter, burnt lemon. Yet ever so subtle and refined. Drink after 2027.

From: Bordeaux 2020 – The Southwold Tasting (Nov 2024)
The 2020 Tour Saint Christophe has a more classically styled, well-defined bouquet, perhaps with Cabernet Franc imparting attractive bell pepper and meaty notes. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. It's fleshy, velvety and cohesive, with a persistent finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
