Description
The Bodegas Borsao Bolé 2021 is a delicious, full-bodied red wine from Campo de Borja in Aragon. Made with Garnacha and Syrah, this wine perfectly illustrates why Borsao is known as the specialist in Spanish Garnacha. Ripe fruit, a hint of spice, and a soft, rounded structure make the Bolé an irresistible wine with character and accessibility.
Origin & grapes
Bodegas Borsao is located in the heart of Campo de Borja , southwest of Zaragoza. The vineyards are situated at altitudes between 400 and 700 meters, where the dry continental climate and cool nights produce concentrated grapes with lively acidity. The 2021 Bolé is a blend of approximately 70% Garnacha and 30% Syrah , sourced from old vines on poor, stony soils that yield sparse but powerful fruit.
Vinification & style
- Fermentation: at controlled temperatures in stainless steel to preserve the fruit.
- Maturation: 3 months in French oak, which adds subtle vanilla and toast notes without overpowering the fruit.
- Style: modern, smooth and aromatic with a perfect balance between ripeness and freshness.
Tasting note: Bodegas Borsao Bolé 2021
The wine opens with intense aromas of ripe blackberries, cherries, violets, and a hint of black pepper . The palate is full and soft, with ripe red and black fruit, a touch of bay leaf, and a subtle smoky note from the oak. The structure is velvety smooth, with juicy acidity and a long, spicy finish. A characterful yet approachable wine that perfectly combines warmth and elegance.
Wine and food pairings
- Meat dishes: grilled beef, lamb chops or Iberico pork tenderloin.
- Stews: beef stew, chili con carne or spicy stews.
- Mediterranean cuisine: grilled vegetables, lasagna or pasta with tomato sauce.
- Cheeses: semi-hard cheeses such as Manchego or young Pecorino.
Serving tips & storage advice
- Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
- Ageing potential: optimal between 2019 and 2026, but drinkable now with delicious ripeness.
- Character: full, juicy and spicy with a touch of elegance — a wine that always gives pleasure.

Ripe raspberries, cranberries, pomegranate and some sweet spices. Pretty soft on the palate with medium body and a berry-oriented finish. The tannins are round and creamy. Garnacha and syrah. Drink now.

The Bodega Borsao was founded in 2001 and is located on the Campo de Borja vineyards. This Bodega is responsible for the spectacular progress of this area. The vineyard is in Moncayo and lies at an altitude of 400 to 700 meters, where the queen of the grape is planted: the Garnacha or Grenache which is able to survive perfectly in the harsh weather conditions of the area. The Tres Picos and Tres Lagunas are made from 100% Garnacha grapes that are harvested from very old vines. The vineyards are fairly cool at about 650 meters above sea level in Campo de Borja, south of the Rioja. Partly because of this, the grapes ripen slowly and gradually. An important condition for the production of complex and high quality wines. After fermentation, a short maturation follows on small oak casks. In taste, the wines are certainly the equal of a complex Châteuneuf-du-Pape, which is also mainly made from Grenache grapes. They easily win in price! The well-known American wine writer Robert Parker invariably scores 90 points or more. The Tres Picos is an internationally renowned wine. The Tres Lagunas is only imported by us to the Netherlands and is absolutely unique in terms of price / quality.
