2024 Gil Family Estates Honoro Vera Irreverent Red Blend
How does this wine taste?
How full and heavy the wine feels in your mouth, like the difference between skimmed milk and cream. More alcohol, sugar and oak ageing make a wine fuller.
The drying, grippy feel on your gums and tongue, as with strong tea. It comes from the skins and seeds of black grapes and from oak, and softens with age.
How much sugar you taste, from dry to sweet. Fruity is not the same as sweet: a dry wine can taste of ripe fruit.
How fresh and juicy the wine is: acidity makes your mouth water. High acidity tastes lively and refreshing, low acidity soft and round.

Log inHonoro Vera is the new project of the Gil family, world-renowned for their El Nido and Clio wines. They also own some of the finest, small-scale estates where they bring out the best of the region. Each of these wines is a true gem. The name Honoro Vera is a tribute to the Gil family, where Honoro is named after Miquel Gil's grandfather and Vera after his grandmother.
The Honoro Vera Irreverent Red Blend is a blend of Monastrell, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Garnacha, aged for four months in French and American oak barrels. The Syrah vineyards are between 15 and 20 years old, while the Monastrell and Garnacha vineyards are between 25 and 40 years old. They are grown on goblet or bush vines in the area known as Término de Arriba, at a respectable altitude of 700 and 800 meters above sea level on sandy and limestone soils. Yields are relatively low, with very small, highly concentrated berries and very thick skins to withstand the extreme climate (very cold winters and hot, dry summers). Each varietal is fermented separately with its skins for 10 days in stainless steel tanks, maintained at a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius, allowing the wines to achieve excellent extraction, bringing out the best from the thick skins.
The Honoro Vera Irreverent Red Blend is a distinctive wine. Delicate yet expressive, it boasts flavors of ripe plums and figs. Its creamy texture offers good density, bright acidity, integrated tannins, and a spicy, surprisingly long finish. While all Honoro Vera wines are of excellent quality, this is the standout in the series, in our humble opinion. Excellent value for money.
