Description
Clos de la Confrérie, a name inherited from the neighboring "Confrérie" or company, is a unique plot, nestled in the heart of Santenay le Haut with a western exposition. The vines have reached their optimal age, which allows them to have a high degree of concentration in our wines. The soil consists of small gravel and clay in the upper part and gives way to more sandy soils as you dig deeper. The vineyard was planted around 1985 and is 1.1 hectares in size, so as with all wines from Chateau de la Crée, supply is very limited.
Just like 2015, the 2018 vintage also put a broad smile on the faces of wine growers and wine lovers from Burgundy. The generous wines of this sunny vintage stand out. 2018 has many similarities with 2015, except that yields were clearly lower (and prices have increased substantially from 2016). An averagely warm year in which, once flowering had taken place, there were no unusual problems and very healthy fruit could be harvested. The Santenay Rouge Premier Cru Gravières has been aged for 18 months in French oak barriques, of which 40% is new oak. In addition, the wine has also had a long bottle maturation in the beautiful cellars of the Château. As with all wines, La Crée releases its wines much later than most Burgundy wineries.
The Santenay "Clos de la Conférie" will undoubtedly delight you with its deep ruby red garnet color. The intense nose shows aromas of blackcurrants and black pepper. The mouth is refined with aromas of blackcurrants, silky tannins and floral characteristics (notes of minerality). A very pleasant wine to enjoy but gastronomically great with powerful, aromatic dishes, high-fiber meats, marbled meats and brown sauces, rib steaks, braised lamb and poultry - roasted or glazed.
FACT: The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you pick up the wine you will also receive a nice discount. We are almost next to the Rijksweg with plenty of parking. Click here for our address and contact information
ABOUT SANTENAY
Santenay is located exactly south of Chassagne Montrachet and is the southernmost village of Burgundy's famous "Cote D'or" ("Gold Coast") region. The etymology of Santenay is most likely connected to the word "Sanctus", which refers to a sacred place before the Christian era. The appellation, with a total of 140 hectares of planted vines, consists of three areas, one next to Chassagne, one around the village and one just south of the village. It is mainly a Pinot Noir appellation nowadays, but the Chardonnay reveals high potential there.

The venerable Château de la Crée estate in Santenay, Burgundy, dates back to the 15th century, when it belonged to Nicolas Rolin, chancellor to Philip the Good and founder of the Hospices de Beaune. Today, the Château's vineyards encompass seven rare Premier Cru blocks located entirely along the famous Côte d'Or escarpment, home to some of the world's most legendary Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. The Château de la Crée estate consists of 25 hectares of prime vineyard blocks in Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay and Maranges and all plantations are located on Premier Cru sites. Biodynamic farming practices are employed in all vineyards to encourage optimal terroir expression and ensure soil and plant health.
Ken and Grace Evenstad, founders and owners of Domaine Serene Winery, came full circle in their passion for great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay when they bought the respected Burgundian wine estate Château de la Crée in April 2015.

Since 2017, our winemaker Pablo Bosch and the viticulture team have been working closely with the team at Evenstads and Domaine Serene to implement techniques in the vineyard and cellar to improve wine quality. The Château de la Crée team strives to continuously combine innovative winemaking techniques to highlight the best qualities of the legendary terroir found only in Burgundy. While great wines start with great vineyards, no detail is left unexplored during the winemaking process. There is no cutback in the continuous quest to make the highest quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the world.
