Description
Château Saintayme 2023
Château Saintayme, located in Saint-Émilion, is owned by Denis Durantou, known for Château L'Eglise-Clinet in Pomerol. The vineyard covers a single nine-hectare plot, planted primarily with Merlot, supplemented with some Cabernet Franc. The terroir consists of limestone, clay, and gravel.
Vinification and Maturation
The vinification process takes place in small stainless steel vats, followed by 14 months of aging in small French oak barrels, 30% of which are new. This results in a wine with soft tannins and ripe fruit notes.
Tasting notes
The 2023 Saintayme is a pure Merlot, harvested between September 27th and October 4th, with an alcohol content of 14.6%. The nose is opulent with aromas of black plum and light blueberry, with a fine purity. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly powdery texture, moderate weight, and good balance. The wine has notes of dark red fruit, cedar, spices, and dried flowers, and a lovely freshness and balance with berries, orange peel, and crushed stone.
Conclusion
Château Saintayme 2023 is a profound, serious wine with a core of inner strength and refined floral notes. It offers excellent balance and freshness, resulting in a very fine Saintayme.

Lovely freshness and balance with berries, orange peel and crushed stone. It's medium-bodied with nice, round tannins. Pure merlot.

From: Bordeaux at the Crossroads: 2023 En Primeur (April 2024)
The 2023 Saintayme, 100% Merlot, is a deep, serious wine. There's a real core of inner strength here. Dark red fruit, cedar, spice and dried flowers open with some coaxing, but the 2023 impresses most with its overall poise. Pretty floral overtones add brightness. The 2023 is a very fine Saintayme.
