Description
The Faset vineyard is only 1 hectare in size and was planted in 1965. The soil consists of grey-white calcareous marl with sand veins; rich in minerals, especially magnesium and manganese. The vineyard is situated on the top of the hill, facing southwest at an altitude of 210–270 metres above sea level
Fermentation for 17 to 18 days with the skins in 55 hl oak barrels, with a gentle “shower” method for wetting the cap at a temperature between 30°C and 27°C. Malolactic fermentation in barrels. Maturation is at least 2 years, of which 18 months in large wooden barrels, followed by maturation in bottle.
This Barbaresco shows a garnet color with brilliant hues, a nose that is ample and aristocratic with notes of dried rose petals, small red fruits and an elegant hint of minerals combined with fine spices. The taste is of great structure, elegant and inviting, with a clear minerality and the dense texture of fine tannins.
Ideal served with wild rabbit with juniper berries, roast pheasant, agnolotti with roasting juices, and well-matured cheeses, at a recommended serving temperature of 18° C
ABOUT HARVEST YEAR 2022 BARBERESCO
The 2022 vintage in Piedmont was marked by a mild winter with little rainfall, followed by an equally dry spring, which led to an early vegetative cycle, about two weeks earlier than normal. This early development continued throughout the growing season. June and July remained hot and dry, but two well-timed rain showers in the Barbaresco and Barolo areas – totaling around 120 mm of rain – helped restore balance to the grapes, particularly in the flesh-to-skin ratio and the ripening process. To preserve freshness and aromatic complexity, and to protect the grape bunches from sun damage, the canopy was carefully managed to provide sufficient shade. Thinning of excess bunches took place earlier than usual, between 20 and 22 August. The manual harvest began on 23 September, about ten days earlier than normal. The grapes were harvested in exceptional condition, with perfect health and ripeness. The 2022 vintage underlined the crucial importance of the winegrower's expertise and intuition, as well as the vine's natural adaptability to climatic challenges. These factors were essential to achieving this Barbaresco Faset, which is surprisingly expressive, beautifully balanced and full of character." Stefano Chiarlo, Winemaker

Michele Chiarlo founded his winery in 1956 with one clear goal: to acquire vineyards in the best crus in Piemonte and thereby make wines that capture the essence of the terroir. Michele Chiarlo started his wine company in 1956. The region where he was born was chosen, Canelli, near Asti in the Region of Piedmont. Here he could make his dream come true in the most unbelievably beautiful wine region in the world.
Tradition, discipline and passion with great care for the land and nature were the most important starting points for him. The company now has 120 hectares of vineyards in Monferrato, the Langhe, (La Morra and Barolo) and the Gavi regions. He has also been the driving force behind the new Barbera Nizza DOC. At Michele Chiarlo, the focus of each vineyard is on the individual terroir and the individuality of the wines. From 2022, the top model, the Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cerequio, will be the first Barolo Cru to be offered via the Place de Bordeaux (this is where selected wine merchants around the world are allowed to buy, including, of course, Grandcru wines).
Michele Chiarlo is one of the few wineries to have a star in the Gambero Rosso. You only get this star if you drink 10x a tre bicchieri or-too-three red glasses, the highest rating of a wine.
