Michele Chiarlo is a renowned winery from Piedmont, Italy, with a rich history dating back to 1956. The family-owned company is known for its dedication to quality and sustainability. Over the years, Michele Chiarlo has developed into one of the most respected producers of Barolo wines. The Barolo Cerequio comes from one of the most prestigious cru vineyards in the region: Cerequio, located in the heart of the Barolo zone between La Morra and Barolo.
The 2021 Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cerequio is produced exclusively from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, which are known for their structure, complexity and long aging potential. This grape variety produces wines with a robust character, fine tannins and elegant aromas of red fruits, rose petals, tar and spices. In this particular Barolo, subtle notes of balsamic, tobacco and cocoa can also be recognized, which develop beautifully as the wine ages.
The Cerequio cru is one of the most appreciated vineyards in the Barolo region, with a southern exposure and a calcareous soil that provides excellent drainage. These natural conditions contribute to an optimal ripening of the Nebbiolo grapes. The microclimate in this region is characterized by warm days and cool nights, which provides a perfect balance between ripeness, freshness and aromatic intensity in the grapes.
The vinification of the 2021 Barolo Cerequio takes place with great attention to detail. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, followed by a long maturation of at least 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. The wine then rests in bottle to further develop its refinement and complexity. This traditional method ensures an elegant, powerful Barolo with a long finish and excellent ageing potential.

Michele Chiarlo founded his winery in 1956 with one clear goal: to acquire vineyards in the best crus in Piemonte and thereby make wines that capture the essence of the terroir. Michele Chiarlo started his wine company in 1956. The region where he was born was chosen, Canelli, near Asti in the Region of Piedmont. Here he could make his dream come true in the most unbelievably beautiful wine region in the world.
Tradition, discipline and passion with great care for the land and nature were the most important starting points for him. The company now has 120 hectares of vineyards in Monferrato, the Langhe, (La Morra and Barolo) and the Gavi regions. He has also been the driving force behind the new Barbera Nizza DOC. At Michele Chiarlo, the focus of each vineyard is on the individual terroir and the individuality of the wines. From 2022, the top model, the Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cerequio, will be the first Barolo Cru to be offered via the Place de Bordeaux (this is where selected wine merchants around the world are allowed to buy, including, of course, Grandcru wines).
Michele Chiarlo is one of the few wineries to have a star in the Gambero Rosso. You only get this star if you drink 10x a tre bicchieri or-too-three red glasses, the highest rating of a wine.
