The 2016 Barbaresco DOCG Trentennale is a limited edition of the Montaribaldi Barbesco made from the best grapes and from the top year 2016. This special edition is intended to celebrate Luciano and Roberto's 30th anniversary at Montaribaldi. For the Barbaresco Trentennale, the maturation period lasted approximately 24 months, partly in oak, first in new and once used barriques (225 L) and then in large wooden barrels (2,000 - 3,000 L). Finally, after about 2 years from the harvest, the Barbaresco DOCG Trentennale was bottled and, after about 5 years of cellar storage, it was ready to be marketed. Only a few hundred cases were made of this, so it is a collector's item and connoisseurs know a Barberesco from 2016..........!

The best grapes for this Trentennale have been picked from plots of vineyards located in Barbaresco, Treiso and Neive. Of course a 100% Nebbiolo and the plots are all located quite high from approximately 300 to 350 meters above sea level with a south and south-westerly exposure. The soil of these beautiful (small) vineyards consists of a layer of gray-blue marls (more and less sandy) and is very calcareous and the oldest plots were planted in 1955. In the glass the Barbaresco Trentennale is garnet red in color with the nose enveloping and rich, with hints of violet and aromas of cocoa, vanilla and tobacco. The tannins have already beautifully merged with the fruit and acids and confirm the beautiful style of Montaribaldi. Wines that come from beautiful vineyards and not from the chemistry box. It is advisable to decant the wine and we like to drink this wine in a large, spacious wine glass (Burgundy type).

FACT : In the Tab: Appendix you will find the official fact sheet of this beautiful wine. We will send it to you automatically when you order this wine. The wine is stored in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you pick up the wine you will often receive a nice discount. We are almost next to the Rijksweg with plenty of parking. BAROLO VS BARBERESCO

Piedmont - synonymous with truffles, risotto and, of course, delicious wines! - is considered one of the best wine regions in Italy. The local conditions of terrain, soil and weather create some fantastic wines. As far as red wines are concerned, the Barolos and Barbarescos are world-famous, powerful wines that keep well. Although Barolo and Barbaresco are made from the same grape, Nebbiolo, and produced in adjacent areas less than 10 miles apart, Barbaresco and Barolo wines have a number of distinctive differences.

The Barbaresco area is located south of the Tanaro River and the area, due to its location, has a slightly higher average temperature which allows the Nebbiolo grape to ripen here slightly earlier than in the Barolo area. Young tannins in a young Barbaresco are often not as hard as Barolo and under DOCG rules it is permitted to release Barbaresco for sale a year earlier than Barolo. The most pronounced difference between the two wines is that Barbaresco's tannins tend to soften more quickly, with the wine being more accessible at a younger age than Barolo. The Barbaresco area is smaller than the Barolo area with an annual production of approximately 35% of Barolo production, meaning that Barbaresco is not as widely available on the market.

The 'azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. The Montaribaldi winery has been owned by the Taliano family from the beginning and has 19 hectares in the Barberesco area. In 1994 Luciano and Roberto took over the company from their father and immediately decided to only produce high quality wines. It is still a real family business, father Guiseppe and mother Carla as well as the wives of the owners, Antonella and Franca all cooperate. At present they produce about 75000 bottles a year. Thanks to the perfect location of the vineyards of Montaribaldi and the typical white soil of the hills in Langhe, the elegant wines that come from them have a long life. Note that the land around the Montaribaldi vineyards is from Gaja. The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. They offer a complete range of wines, from grapes typical of this region. Typical of this winery is that the wines have their origin in Piedmont, are always recognizable as a 'Montaribaldi' wine and are sustainably grown and produced. As they call it themselves: making 'vineyard wines' distinguishes them from others.
