When it comes to value for money in Bordeaux, you will quickly come to Château Le Crock. This winery from Saint-Estèphe manages to deliver such high quality every year that the winery is not only known for its excellent wines, but also for its incredible price/quality. It is not without reason that Château Le Crock is one of the very select wineries that achieved the highest Cru Bourgeois 'Exceptionnel' status two years ago. Château Le Crock is owned by the Cuvelier family, who also own Château Léoville Poyferré, and was created with the same dedication.

The terroir is of high quality and is located among the big names such as Ch. Cos d'Estournel, Ch. Montrose and Ch. Haut Marbuzet. Château Le Crock has 32 hectares of vineyards on an exceptional terroir consisting of gravel, surface sand and clay. The benefits of these features are the ability to retain heat, and provide a natural water reserve. The vineyard is spread over three different settlement areas and enjoys exceptional richness and aromatic diversity. The proximity to the Gironde acts as a thermal regulator, avoiding excessive temperatures.

The Chateau Le Crock is a blend composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, supplemented with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. In the glass, the le Crock has a deep garnet purple color and vibrant, open scents of crushed blackcurrants, redcurrant jelly and crushed blackcurrants with hints of mossy tree bark and pencil. The medium-bodied flavor delivers a good amount of crunchy black fruit with a slightly chewy texture and a refreshing finish. The fruit is ripe and soft from the start, the tannins are extremely fine for a St Estèphe. What a pleasure to taste this. The Cabernets Sauvignons reach an absolute high point here in ripeness, energy and subtlety! The aftertaste is also very long and lasting. No wonder this cru was awarded the title "Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel" last year!

Château Le Crock Saint Estèphe is located exactly between Château Cos d'Estournel and Château Montrose. It was already a well-known château in the 18th and 19th centuries, then under the name Bastérot-Ségur. In 1776 it was classified as the second cru of Saint Estèphe. In 1804, the winery received the title of Premier Cru Bourgeois Supérieur. To this day, it has been classified as Cru Bourgeois. The modern history of the château begins in 1903. In that year the old Bordeaux family Cuvelier buys the Château. This family owns several wine estates. They are best known for their activities at Château Léoville-Poyferré, the crown jewel of the Cuvelier family. This also means that the same oenology team is responsible for winemaking here. Michel Rolland was hired as an advisor in 1995. He is one of the best oenologists in Bordeaux. The 33 hectares of vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (5%). The terroir is identical to that of their world-famous neighbors. Much has been invested in the cellars and vineyards in recent years, which has resulted in a significant improvement in the quality of the wines. (“This vineyard, owned by Didier Cuvelier, the proprietor of Leoville-Poyferre, is finally coming to life.” -Robert Parker) Château Le Crock is one of the most beautiful, almost fairytale-like châteaus in Bordeaux, and has a very impressive building .
