Frédéric Chaudière and his brother Alexandre together run Château Pesquié, located at the foot of Mont Ventoux. Their 72 hectares of vineyards are located within a radius of up to 5 km around the Château in the commune of Mormoiron and are planted on a very siliceous soil mixed with clay and sandstone. The ecological way of working, in combination with a good quality and varied soil, the right grape varieties with a considerable age and the favorable microclimate with the cooling effect of the Mont Ventoux, guarantee top quality wines. Both brothers with a lot of love for their wines and passion for quality, are currently seen as pioneers of their region and are a shining example for the Ventoux appellation. Robert Parker underlines the quality of this Château by regularly giving high scores.

The name recalls the terroir of sand in which it gives its exceptional finesse and elegance. It also pays tribute to one of the most important elements used in biodynamic farming, enhancing the clarity and shimmering sides of wine.

The Château Pesquié Silica consists of 90% Grenache and 10% Cinsault. The Grenache is a grape that gives a wine that in its youth has a lot of fresh red fruit, especially raspberries and cherries. As a winemaker you have to be able to 'catch' that. Alex Chaudiere can do that like no other. He ferments the wine on 'concrete eggs' (very modern) and concrete tanks (old-fashioned), followed by 12-15 months in 600L barrels (demi muids). The wine can take it, because the wood does not dominate. Berries, cherries and raspberries. Some kirsch and white pepper. Intense and delicate in the taste, with beautiful fruit and a long finish. Jeb Dunnuck 93-95, Wine Advocate 91-93, 96 (Gold) Decanter Wine Awards.

Frédéric Chaudière (commerce) and his brother Alexandre (winemaker) jointly run Château Pesquié, located at the foot of Mont Ventoux. Their 72 hectares of vineyards are located within a maximum radius of 5 km around the Château in the municipality of Mormoiron and are planted on a very siliceous soil, mixed with clay and sandstone. The ecological way of working, in combination with a good quality and varied soil, the right grape varieties with a considerable age and the favorable microclimate with the cooling effect of the Mont Ventoux, guarantee top quality wines. Both brothers with great love for their wines and passion for quality, are currently seen as pioneers of their region and are a shining example for the Ventoux appellation. Robert Parker underlines the quality of this Château by regularly giving high scores.

The history of the winery is a real family history that started in the 1970s, when Odette and René Bastide bought an old and dilapidated winery and renovated it bit by bit. Above all, the vineyards were well cared for, they gave the harvest to a cooperative for 20 years. When around 1985, Odette's daughter Edith and her husband Paul Chaudière took over the winery, the vineyards were already in very good condition, in addition to the fact that the southern Rhône region was promoted to a qualified wine-growing region. This is how the first Château Pesquié came onto the market in the great vintage of 1990. In 2003 the two sons Alexandre and Frédéric took over the management of the estate together with their cousin Renaud. With a series of vintages that made a deep impression on the international press, they managed to get Château Pesquié into the top five of the Appellation Ventoux.

The conditions for this are therefore ideal. Just the location of the Château on the border of the Alps and the Mediterranean, in the extraordinary microclimate of Mont Ventoux. This guarantees very healthy grapes. The vineyards are at their best at about 35 years old. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Roussanne, Viognier, Clairette and Chardonnay offer the typical Rhone grape varieties. The wine cellar is equipped with the most modern techniques. “If you like southern Rhône reds but don't like the price of most famous Châteauneufs, you should consider the great value and pleasure offered by Pesquié’s Les Terrasses”, Jancis Robinson writes, giving a telling assessment of the level of this winery!
