Description
The Brandini wine company is located in Piedmont in the town of La Morra, about 30 kilometers from Alba. The Italian region is known for its truffles and great Barolo wines. The company is run by two very energetic ladies: Serena and Giovanna Bagnasco. They are convinced that growing grapes and making wine organically is more of a way of life than a production method. The ladies believe in the philosophy of treating the earth well and leaving it better than they found it. In addition, they are very committed to the quality of their wines.
Agricola Brandini has 18 hectares of vineyards located between La Morra, Serralunga d'Alba and Monforte d'Alba. Serena and Giovanna make a wide range of high quality wines including Barolo, Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba, Nebbiolo, Arneis and sparkling wines including Moscato d'Asti.
This Barolo comes from the heart of the Barolo region, namely from the famous town of La Mora. Of course this is a 100% Nebbiolo. After being manually picked from the organically managed vineyard (single vineyard), the wine was first aged for 30 months in large oak barrels and then bottled for another 6-8 months before it became available.
This wine was previously called Resa56, but from the 2016 vintage the wine has been abbreviated to R56. That name refers to a single-vineyard Grandcru plot with a sunny south-west exposure in the La Morra subzone of the appellation. The vineyard is fully owned and managed by Agricola Brandini and is located around the domain. It has a unique microclimate formed by altitude, ventilation, clayey and sandy soil and aggressive pruning is carried out with significant reduction of the grapes. It only matures in large barrels to keep all the unique terroir characteristics intact.
The Barolo R56 is a bright and polished expression that shows an impressive level of fruit intensity and purity. In the nose we smell herbs, red fruit, roses. In the mouth the wine is harmonious and for a barolo already very balanced and ready to drink. In line with the vintage characteristics, the mouthfeel is on the light side but that is why it is so elegant. Allow it to drink slowly and open the bottle 1-2 hours before serving. This wine will further improve and become balanced after several years of aging.

This wine was previously called Resa56, but I see that its name has been shortened to R56. That name refers to a single-vineyard parcel with sunny, southwest positioning in the La Morra subzone of the appellation. The site is fully owned and farmed by Agricola Brandini, which has a monopoly. The 2014 Barolo R56 is a bright and polished expression that shows an impressive level of fruit intensity and purity. Keeping in line with the vintage characteristics, the mouthfeel is on the thin and light side but elegant all the while. Production is 2,460 bottles.
Giovanna Bagnasco and the folks at Agricola Brandini have now completed a winery enlargement project. They have also recently purchased new vineyard plots, and these acquisitions now produce new Brandini wines. Starting with the 2014 vintage, there is a Barolo made with fruit from Annunziata in La Morra and a second selection from Meriame in Serralunga d'Alba. We can also look forward to a 2015 release of Barolo from Cerretta in Serralunga d'Alba.

BRANDINI BAROLO RESA 56 2019
Score

Another attractive Barolo with ripe red fruit character and notes of chocolate, ground spices, blue flowers and citrus. Medium- to full-bodied, round and nervy with super polished tannins and a long meaty finish. Delicate with finesse. Try after 2026.

Agricola Brandini is fully committed to organic viticulture. The aim of the owners of these wine producers is to want to leave the earth better than they found it. They respect the product, the environment, the employees and the customers. The daily management is in the hands of the Bagnasco sisters. There is no lack of ambition: the cellar is led by Bruno Giacosa's former winemaker. He is assisted by Andrea Farinetti, known from the Borgogno winery, who considers Brandini his prestige project. The way of making wine is extremely traditional (i.e. no barriques, no artificial interventions). They work with the best, most modern and efficient equipment and only native yeasts are used. Aging takes place in large barrels of 20 to 60 hectoliters. Delicious Barolo and Nebbiolo wines are made here.

The winery has its own restaurant where delicious regional dishes are served. Located in the truffle region of Italy, these are of course regularly served with the famous truffles. In the Agriturismo you can spend the night in one of the beautiful rooms and from the swimming pool in the garden you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Langhe valley. An ideal travel destination for lovers of good wine and good Italian food.
