The Verdelho is a Portuguese grape that is best known from the island of Madeira. Verdelho also grows under the name Gouveio in the Portuguese Douro valley. The Verdelho is a white grape from which dry white wines are made, but especially Madeira. Medium dry Madeira is made from this grape because it has a relatively higher sugar content. The grape ripens early. It is found in Portugal, Australia and New Zealand. Wines made from Verdelho are very aromatic and balanced
