Description
The Calem 20 years old Tawny port is the result of specially selected port that has been matured in wood. These all spent about 20 years in barrels before blending. Aged Tawny is one of the most difficult ports to make. It is composed of port from different vintages and is only mixed and bottled after years of barrel maturation. It starts with a selection of wines after each harvest. These are put in barrels and then tasted each time and ultimately mixed into a perfect port.
This tawny from Calem has a subtle taste of dried fruit, honey and wood, making this port very tasty. This version comes in a nice box with two beautiful port glasses from Calem. This port combines well with various strong cheeses!
Cálem Port stands for quality
Cálem Port was founded in 1859 by António Alves Cálem. The port was exported to Brazil and exotic wood was brought back. Cálem did this with its own ships, the so-called 'caravelles'. An image of such a ship can be found in the Cálem Port logo. The company remained in the family for four generations. The aim was to make a port of excellent quality. Even when the port house was incorporated by the Sogevinus Group in 1998, nothing changed. The many prizes that the Cálem ports win prove this.

Quinta do Arnozelo is beautifully situated in the middle of steep terraced vineyards
The grapes for Cálem's port come from Quinta do Arnozelo. This quinta is in a beautiful location among the steep vineyards in the Douro valley. The vinification of the Cálem port takes place in São Martinho da Anta, where the modern Cálem winery is located. The port is then matured in Vila Nova de Gaia, the city where the large port houses have their cellars. These cellars are cool and dark and have the perfect humidity for the maturation of the ports. This is necessary, because some ports take decades to reach the market.
