Description
The Claré JC wine style dates back to ancient times, when Nebbiolo wines were crafted to be light, fresh, and softer than what we know today. To preserve the vibrancy and purity of the fruit character, Claré JC is bottled in its youth. The grapes are sourced from young vines and undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks. A small percentage of these grapes are fermented as whole bunches to give the wine a light structure. Much gentler extraction methods are used during fermentation, and pressing is done at lower pressures. The result is a wine ready to drink, with notes of sweet cherry, red fruit, and a subtle eucalyptus note. On the palate, the tannic structure is delicate and balanced by bright, youthful acidity.

Aldo Vajra has always been a bit of a rebel. And for good reason, because this trait has led to this beautiful winery and its authentic wines. Vajra's vineyards are located northwest of Barolo and have been organically farmed from the start. The high altitude of the vineyards (the Bricco delle Viole is among the highest vineyards in Piedmont) creates a large temperature difference between day and night. The grapes ripen slowly and fully, giving the wines a wonderful finesse and elegance. The relatively cool climate in this area has led many winemakers to harvest the Dolcetto grape, as this grape needs warmth to fully develop. But the Vajra family still produces beautiful rosé and red wines from this grape. Read more under the tab: Winery

A profoundly complex blend of crushed blackberries, violets, spice orange peels and sage makes the 2022 Nebbiolo Clarè J.C. a total knockout on the nose. Silky and enveloping with a pretty inner sweetness up front, this impresses further as a wave of wild berry fruit and exotic spice slowly saturates the palate. The 2022 finishes lightly structured yet full of mouth-watering tension. Licorice and purple-toned inner florals gradually fade. Its deep red color and tremendous depth make it hard to classify the Clarè J.C. as a Rosé. That said, its drinkability factor is off the charts. - Eric Guido

G.D. Vajra is a testament to the harmonious relationship between terroir and the rich legacy of a passionate winemaking family. Situated in the renowned Barolo appellation, this enchanting estate has been crafting exceptional wines for generations, capturing the essence of the land and the profound stories that shaped their journey.
The cornerstone of G.D. Vajra's wine making philosophy lies in the concept of terroir. Every bottle that bears their name is an expression of the unique characteristics of the vineyards and the distinct microclimates that bless the Langhe region. From the ethereal vineyard of Bricco delle Viole to the enchanting slopes of Fossati and Ravera, each parcel of land is meticulously tended, allowing the grapes to mature and develop their individual personalities.
The Vajra family, led by the visionary Aldo Vajra, has been nurturing vineyards and crafting wines since the 1970s. Aldo made his first organic wines at the age of 18 and became one of the first wineries to replant the forgotten grape variety Freisa. He continued to innovate with the plantings of less traditional varieties such as Riesling and Pinot Noir. The Vajra family to this day remain steadfast in their commitment to sustainable practices, seeking to preserve the natural biodiversity of their vineyards for generations to come.
The Vajra family's winemaking journey is a testament to their unwavering love for their heritage. With a blend of tradition and innovation, they have honed their craft over the years, producing wines that carry the spirit of their ancestors. Whether it's the iconic Barolo, the elegant Dolcetto, or the vibrant Barbera, each bottle is a reflection of the Vajra family's deep-rooted passion and dedication.
