Blanc de Lynch-Bages 2024 – lively freshness from Pauillac

The Blanc de Lynch-Bages 2024 is one of the most refined dry white wines from the Médoc. Sourced from 7 hectares of Garonne gravel soils around Pauillac, this wine reflects the precision and energy of the Famille Cazes team. In a year where adaptability was crucial, this white wine delivered a remarkably aromatic and pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle, and Sémillon.

Climate and harvest

2024 began with an extremely wet winter and mild temperatures, leading to early bud break. Spring brought significant rain and disease pressure, particularly powdery mildew, but thanks to swift and careful intervention, the harvest's potential was preserved. The summer was dry, without extreme heat, which enhanced the freshness and aromatic precision of the grapes. Some rain fell in late September, contributing to additional balance just before harvest.

The white grapes were harvested between September 12th and 18th , in bright weather and at optimum ripeness.

Vinification and maturation

Depending on the grape variety and quality, three vinification methods were chosen:

  • Direct pressing (with or without destemming),

  • Or after a cold skin maceration of 12 hours under dry ice.

Fermentation took place largely in wood (2/3) and partly in stainless steel, followed by six months of aging on lie , 50% of which was in new French oak . This process produces a wine with both texture and vibrancy.

Assembly and style

The final blend:

  • 77% Sauvignon Blanc – citrus, flint and energy,

  • 12% Muscadelle – floral refinement,

  • 11% Sémillon – roundness and structure.

Alcohol: 12.5%
Acids: 4.2 g/L
pH: 3.12

Tasting notes of the 2024 Lynch Bages Blanc

The 2024 Blanc de Lynch-Bages displays a pale yellow color with greenish reflections . The nose is dominated by floral notes of boxwood, citrus zest, and subtle spice. The palate is lively, taut, and beautifully balanced , with a precise mineral note and fresh acidity that give the wine length and tension.

Wine and food pairing and availability

Ideal as an aperitif, but also pairs well with ceviche, oysters, sushi, grilled sea bass, or a goat cheese salad. This wine is a refreshing contrast to the estate's top red wine.

The founder of Lynch-Bages is the Irish John Lynch who settled in Bordeaux in the 17th century. The village of Bages is home to the château. Since 1933, Lynch-Bages has been run by the Cazes family, an institution in the Médoc and a famous name in the world of wine. Third generation André Cazes was mayor of the municipality of Pauillac from 1947 to 1991. His son Jean-Michel has been running the family domain for several decades. His motto is; "great wine in search of the absolute". Given the appreciation for and status of Lynch-Bages, this 'absolute' has been reasonably achieved. Officially the château has the status of 5th Grand Cru Classé, but unofficially it is counted among the greatest of the Médoc. The other parts of the family business can also be described as very successful. Cordeillan-Bages, winery, hotel and best dining in the surrounding area and restaurant / caterer Le Chapon Fin in Bordeaux are good examples of this. Father André founded the Commanderie du Bontemps de Médoc in the late 1940s and Jean-Michel can call himself the founder of the École du Bordeaux. In short, an eventful family in the world of wine.
