Description
about Twenty Acres and the Bogle family
Twenty Acres is a wine line from the Bogle family, which has been making wine in Clarksburg for six generations. The name refers to the first twenty acres Warren Bogle planted in 1968, which formed the foundation of one of California's most renowned family-owned wineries. The Bogle family is known for its sustainable cultivation and meticulous viticulture. The vineyards are located in the Sacramento Delta, where warm days and cool nights produce balanced wines with ripe fruit and crisp acidity.
vineyards and terroir
The wine comes from the Clarksburg AVA in Yolo County, an area with a unique microclimate. The alluvial soils of sand and clay retain moisture but also provide adequate drainage. The location near the Sacramento River brings cooling winds that slowly ripen the grapes. This allows the wine to retain its freshness despite California's sunny climate. This terroir is ideal for Chardonnay, but also for Chenin Blanc—the first white grape ever planted by the Bogle family.
grape varieties and composition
The 2023 Twenty Acres Chardonnay is composed of 89% Chardonnay and 11% Chenin Blanc. The addition of Chenin Blanc pays tribute to the family heritage and adds tension and freshness. While the Chardonnay provides depth, creaminess, and structure, the Chenin Blanc brings vibrant notes of melon and citrus to the blend.
vinification and maturation
The Chardonnay is fermented and aged on its lees in new French oak barrels for 11 months. This gives the wine its rich texture and subtle vanilla notes. The Chenin Blanc is fermented separately in 100% stainless steel to preserve its fruitiness and freshness. The final blend combines the smoothness and depth of oak-aged Chardonnay with the clarity and tension of Chenin Blanc. The result is a wine that is rich and complex, yet remains refined and vibrant.
winemaker's tasting notes
The wine displays fresh aromas of green apple, juicy pear, and subtle lemon meringue. On the palate, notes of honeydew melon, toasted vanilla, and a light hint of butter follow. The balance between creamy texture and refreshing acidity makes this wine versatile for dining. Thanks to its sur-lie aging, it possesses depth and complexity, while the addition of Chenin Blanc adds a refreshing freshness. The finish is long, silky, and elegant.
serving advice and storage potential
Serve slightly chilled at 10 to 12°C. This wine truly shines in a generous white wine glass. Suitable for drinking young, it will retain its freshness and structure well into 2028. The balance of fruit, acidity, and oak will develop greater complexity and creaminess with bottle aging.

The Bogle family has been growing wines since the nineteenth century. It wasn't until around 1968 that the family planted the first vines near Clarksburgh USA. After years of hard work, the Bogle family has more than 1,200 acres of viticulture in California. With the growth of the company, the family established a name within the wine world, both in America and abroad. The main reason for the success is that the family is engaged in the production of wine on a daily basis. The family understands that high quality wines start with excellent grape varieties. They ensure this by working organically with respect for the land and the environment. The story behind the pheasant on the labels of the wines is as follows. The family wanted a label that reflected the region of the vineyards. The family came into contact with the artist Paul Lorenzi, who was sketching the wines one evening. Suddenly a beautiful pheasant sat in the middle of the vineyard. The Bogle wines label was born!
