2023 Pieropan La Rocca Soave Classico BIO

Leonildo Pieropan is considered the godfather of Soave. The wines are made from the garganega and trebbiano grapes from the hills around the town of Soave. The special cuvée La Rocca, made from late-picked grapes, is aged in French oak and has won many international awards. Andrea and Dario continue their father's work and, in addition to the famous Soave, also make red wines of exceptional quality. After studying regional grape varieties, the terroir and the microclimate, the company purchased vineyards and real estate in Cellore d'Ilasi (Valpolicella and Amarone) in 1999. Corvina, corvinone, rondinella and croatina veronese are now used to make a beautiful Valpolicella, Ruberpan and a complex and rich Amarone. The old fifteenth-century monastery on the estate, Villa Cipolla, is currently being restored and converted into a luxury agriturismo.

The La Rocca Soave Classico is Pieropan's top model. The Garganega grapes are harvested (very) late to obtain an optimal degree of ripeness. Gentle pneumatic pressing separates the juices from the skins. After a short settling period of 2 days, the juices are transferred, partly to stainless steel tanks with temperature control, partly to 500-litre barrels. At 20°C the juices ferment very slowly. The young wine is given time to develop and is then aged in wood for 1 year: 60% remains in the 500-litre barrels, the rest in large barrels with a capacity of 2000 litres. After assembling and bottling, the wine rests in the bottle for another 4 months.

In the glass, the La Rocca Soave Classico from Pieropan is clear and sparkling with an intense (light) yellow color. It is a characterful wine with aromas of exotic fruit and nuts. Soft and captivating in the mouth, with impressions of citrus fruits, spices and vanilla. This Soave is an ideal companion for firm and flavorful fish and shellfish (lobster, crab). Also recommended with white meat, rabbit and chicken in light sauces.
