Description
Laura Catena – daughter of the famous wine pioneer Nicolas Catena - set up the La Posta wine series to give the smaller winegrowers of Mendoza their own stage, instead of a nameless spot in the local cooperative. The wines are called La Posta, after the typical local pub that you can find everywhere here on the side of the road.
Paula and Pablo Pizzella are relative newcomers to Mendoza. Out of love for nature, two teachers left the city of Buenos Aires for Mendoza. Paula and Pablo Pizzella were physical education teachers. They immediately attracted attention with their wines from high-altitude, cool vineyards, at an altitude of 1100 meters. With their three children, they now focus on their 10 hectare vineyard in the Uco Valley. This means that it is cared for with great warmth and attention. No wonder that this produces beautiful Malbecs. The vineyards were planted in 1998 and the soil consists of sandy loam, sand, silt and clay with 20% stones covered with limestone. The fruit is paramount here, due to the beautiful aromatic grapes that are harvested, and the careful use of wood. No more than 15% of the barrels are renewed annually, which produces a subtle woody aroma. A special, beautifully typified Malbec.
The La Posta Pizzella Malbec (Pizzella Family Vineyard) has a deep ruby red color in the glass with fresh red berries, cassis, pure fruit, black cherries, vanilla, jam, juniper, herbs and chocolate in the nose. The Malbec has concentration and depth, black berries and a hint of chocolate, beautiful wood, fine vanilla and black pepper, beautiful acids, nice and firm and tasteful. Powerful and intense red wine. Delicious with duck breast with berry sauce, grilled lamb chops, pepper steak, mature cheeses.

From: The Uco Valley: Where Diverse Terroirs Work Their Magic (Sep 2023)
The 2022 Malbec La Posta Pizzella comes from Paraje Altamira in the Uco Valley and was 50% aged in oak barrels, a fifth new and the rest used, while the other 50% went into stainless steel tanks. Purple in the glass. The nose presents violet and fresh plums with subtle herbal aromas. The 2022 is indulgent and juicy, with somewhat chalky tannins contributing to a taut, mouthwatering mouthfeel. This is quintessential Altamira.

A ripe, spicy malbec here full of fresh blackberries, blueberries, some sweet dark spices, black wood and dark chocolate. Crunchy, fresh and juicy on the medium- to full-bodied palate with firm, supportive and small-grained tannins. Plenty of oak spices in the energetic finish. Give it one more year to let the sweet oak spices integrate. Drink from 2024.

In the Argentinian tradition, La Posta is a tavern where the (wine) farmers come together for a glass of wine, to share stories about the harvest and of course for their daily siesta. Each La Posta label illustrates a story of these individual families. One sip full of flavor and you will welcome these breeders into your own family, into your glass and into your heart.
Angel Paulucci, from car mechanic to owner of a vineyard.
The Pizzella Family, for the love of nature, these two teachers have left town.
Domingo Fazzio, the dancing winegrower who loves women.
Estela Armando, from Italy to share wine with the trans-European railway workers
