Description
Laura Catena – daughter of the famous wine pioneer Nicolas Catena - set up the La Posta wine series to give the smaller winegrowers of Mendoza their own stage, instead of a nameless spot in the local cooperative. The wines are called La Posta, after the typical local pub that you can find everywhere here on the side of the road.
Mr. Angel Paulucci originally came to Mendoza from Italy in search of a job as an auto mechanic. After buying hectares of land for a very low price, his family friend convinced him to plant a vineyard and grow Malbec. He did so in 1972 and today the Angel Paulucci vineyard continues to produce Malbec from old vines, among other varieties. The vineyards, located in Ugarteche - Luján de Cuyo, are of alluvial loam soil with 30% clay which lowers the average root temperature and helps retain water. During the vinification process, 50% of the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 10 months. Of which 15% are new barrels and 15% are second and third used barrels. The other 70% is aged in stainless steel tanks. This produces an elegant and drinkable wine.
The La Posta Paulucci Malbec Angel Paulucci Vineyard is a delicious pure and elegant Malbec, the fruit bursts out of the glass, plums and cherries, raspberries, fine vanilla and spices, in the mouth beautifully smooth and peppery, spices, vanilla and toast, caramel and coffee, nice and firm. Powerful red wine. Beautiful with lentils with pancetta, spiced sausages, mature farm cheeses.

Fragrant dark plum fruit, lavender and black tea aromas. Some cocoa. It’s medium- to full-bodied with excellent purity of fruit. Sleek, supple tannins. Delicious now.

From: 2021 and 2022 Set the Tone for the Classic Reds of Mendoza (May 2024)
The 2022 Malbec La Posta Paulucci, from Ugarteche, Luján de Cuyo, was 50% aged in oak barrels (15% new). Purple in color, the fruit-forward nose features plums and violets, along with a vanilla-oak layer. Dry, rich and supple, the tannin-less mouthfeel provides a lovely texture. This is a sapid and velvety Luján de Cuyo red.

In the Argentinian tradition, La Posta is a tavern where the (wine) farmers come together for a glass of wine, to share stories about the harvest and of course for their daily siesta. Each La Posta label illustrates a story of these individual families. One sip full of flavor and you will welcome these breeders into your own family, into your glass and into your heart.
Angel Paulucci, from car mechanic to owner of a vineyard.
The Pizzella Family, for the love of nature, these two teachers have left town.
Domingo Fazzio, the dancing winegrower who loves women.
Estela Armando, from Italy to share wine with the trans-European railway workers
