Description
Mineral white wine from old Bianchello vines from the Metauro Valley in Le Marche.
The Guerrieri winery and its location in the Metauro Valley
Azienda Agraria Guerrieri is a family-owned winery established in the Marche region, on Italy's east coast, in 1800. The vineyards are located 12 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea, 200 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Metauro Valley. This valley, named after the region's longest river, has a unique microclimate with constant air circulation and strong influences from both the sea and the Apennines.
The winery combines centuries-old tradition with modern techniques and sustainable agriculture. The Guerrieri family has managed the estate for generations, with a strong focus on biodiversity, nature conservation, and the use of local grape varieties. Guerriero del Mare is a wine born from this, perfectly reflecting the specific climatic characteristics of this region.
Grapes, vineyard and harvest of Guerriero del Mare
The Guerriero del Mare is a white wine made from 100% Bianchello , originating from a vineyard planted in 1990 with genetic material from a unique clonal selection from 1950, owned by the Guerrieri family. This combination of old and younger vines preserves the original identity of the grape. The vineyards face northeast and have a planting density of 3,000 vines per hectare. The soil consists of gray calcareous clay with sublayers of blue sediment, formed by water erosion. The vegetation layer contains clay, loam, and fine limestone particles. Yields are deliberately kept low (1.5 to 2 kg per plant) and the harvest takes place manually in the second half of October, after strict selection and thinning of the bunches.
Vinification and maturation of Guerriero del Mare
After harvest, a small portion of the grapes undergoes skin maceration, followed by white vinification using cold static decantation. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in cement vats under controlled temperatures. The wine then remains on lees in the same tanks for four months to develop structure and complexity.
Finally, the wine matures for one year in cement tanks and four months in French tonneaux (large oak barrels), which provides a subtle roundness without an overpowering wood character.
Color, aroma and taste of Guerriero del Mare
The wine has a straw-yellow to golden yellow color. The nose reveals aromas of citrus, peach, and white flowers , complemented by notes of balsamic herbs like rosemary and sage. On the palate, the wine is harmonious and mineral, with refreshing acidity and a long, lively finish.
The wine has an alcohol content of 14%, a residual sugar of 8 g/L, and a total acidity of 7 g/L. This balance between ripe fruit and freshness makes it a gastronomic white wine with a distinctive character.

Wine and food pairings with Guerriero del Mare
Thanks to its pronounced minerality, fresh acidity, and spicy notes, this wine is excellent for gastronomy. Some suitable pairings:
- Sea bass carpaccio with citrus dressing – The fresh acidity in the wine enhances the liveliness of the dish and makes it light and elegant.
- White Truffle Risotto – The earthy complexity of the truffle complements the spicy and floral notes of the wine perfectly.
- Veal oyster with sage butter – The juicy texture and soft spiciness of the meat are beautifully supported by the structure of the wine.
- Pan-fried scallops with fennel and orange – The light sweetness of the scallops and citrus is beautifully balanced by the wine's crisp acidity.

Wijnhuis
