Description
Fresh and harmonious white wine from the Bianchello grape from the Metauro valley in Le Marche.
The Guerrieri winery and its location in the Metauro Valley
Since 1800, Azienda Agraria Guerrieri has been active in the Le Marche region, located on the east coast of Italy. The winery is located in the Metauro Valley, named after the longest river in the region. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 200 meters, just 12 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea. This location creates a unique microclimate, influenced by both sea and mountain influences. The constant wind and large temperature differences between day and night promote the development of aromas and acids in the grapes. Guerrieri works sustainably and produces wines that reflect the characteristics of the local terroir. The Celso Bianchello del Metauro Superiore is a prime example of this philosophy.
Grape variety and origin of Guerrieri Celso Bianchello del Metauro Superiore
The wine is made from 100% Bianchello del Metauro , a grape typical of the region and historically planted to pair with fish from the Adriatic Sea. The vines are between 7 and 15 years old and grow on the eastern bank of the Metauro river. The soil consists of grey calcareous clay that changes to light blue sediment a few metres deep. The vegetation layer is rich in silt and small limestone particles, created by water erosion. The vineyards are south to south-west oriented with a planting density of 3200 vines per hectare. The yield is on average 4 kg per plant. The grapes are harvested by hand in the first half of September and carefully selected for ripeness and health.
Vinification and maturation of Guerrieri Celso Bianchello del Metauro Superiore
After manual harvesting, the grapes are gently pneumatically pressed to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The must undergoes a cold static clarification, followed by a controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is deliberately not aged in wood, to allow the freshness, floral notes and terroir to come into their own.
Colour, aroma and taste of Guerrieri Celso Bianchello del Metauro Superiore
The wine has a bright straw yellow colour. On the nose aromas of white peach, pear and white flowers . These scents are fresh and pure, without being excessively intense. On the palate the wine is harmonious and refreshing, with a pleasantly low alcohol content of 12.5%. The acidity of 6.85 g/L provides liveliness, while the residual sugar content of 4.9 g/L gives a round balance. The pH of 3.15 contributes to the freshness.
