Description
Elegant and fruit-driven Sangiovese from the Metauro Valley in Le Marche.
The Guerrieri winery in the Metauro Valley
Azienda Agraria Guerrieri has been operating since 1800 in the Le Marche region on the eastern coast of Italy, overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The estate is located just 12 kilometres from the coast, at an altitude of 200 metres, in the heart of the historic Metauro Valley. Named after the region’s longest river, this valley offers a unique microclimate ideal for quality viticulture.
The climate in this region is mild and balanced, with constant winds and significant temperature variations between day and night. The influence of the sea to the east and the Apennines to the west ensure grapes with optimum aromatic development. Guerrieri works sustainably and focuses on wines that express the freshness and elegance of the local terroir.
Origin and composition of Guerrieri Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese
The 2023 Guerrieri Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese is a red wine based on 90% Sangiovese and 10% Montepulciano. The grapes come from vines that are between 7 and 15 years old. The vineyards are south and southwest oriented, which ensures a good ripening of the fruit, while maintaining freshness:contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}.
The soil of the vineyard consists of grey calcareous clay that changes into a light blue subsoil after a few metres. The vegetation layer is mainly loam-clay with small lime particles, created by water erosion. This soil composition contributes to the structure and freshness of the wine.
The harvest is done manually in the second half of September. Careful selection is made for ripe and healthy bunches, with an average yield of 3 kg per plant.
Vinification and maturation of Guerrieri Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese
The wine is produced according to the classic red vinification method. The grapes undergo temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, to preserve the fruit expression and freshness. No wood aging is used, so that the wine retains its youthful character and aromatic purity.
Color, smell and taste of Guerrieri Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese
In the glass this wine has a vibrant ruby red colour. In the nose intense aromas of cherries, raspberries and light floral notes emerge. The profile is elegant, youthful and aromatic, with a clear expression of the terroir.
On the palate the wine is fresh, medium-bodied and well-balanced. The acidity gives tension and liveliness, while the 13% alcohol makes the wine approachable. The wine has a residual sugar of 5 g/L and an acidity of 6.5 g/L, with a pH of 3.5, which gives a bright, fruity style. Fantastic wine to drink chilled.

Wijnhuis
