Description
Bogle Vineyards and the Chardonnay Reserve line
Bogle Vineyards is a family-owned winery in Clarksburg, California, that has been crafting wines for generations with a focus on balance, consistency, and character. The Chardonnay Reserve is a selection from the finest parcels and is known for its full-bodied style, subtle oak use, and ripe yet fresh expression. The grapes are sourced from cooler regions of California, where morning fog and wide temperature variations help preserve aromas and acidity. For Chardonnay, this results in wines with both richness and vibrancy, a combination that clearly characterizes the Reserve line. Under the "Winery" tab, you'll find more information about the winery's history and working methods.
The grape and vinification of the 2023 Chardonnay Reserve
The 2023 vintage is made entirely from Chardonnay. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve both ripe yellow fruit and sufficient freshness. Bogle uses controlled fermentation and oak aging to develop structure and complexity without the oak dominating. Regular bâtonnage creates a fuller, creamier texture.
Bogle is known for carefully balancing its oak use. A combination of new and used barrels imparts subtle vanilla, toast, and spice notes without overpowering the fruit. The result is a balanced Chardonnay with depth and smoothness.
Color, aroma and taste of the 2023 Chardonnay Reserve
The wine displays a bright golden yellow color. The nose reveals aromas of ripe peach, baked apple, citrus blossom, and a hint of toasted vanilla. With aeration, a light spice and a hint of caramel also emerge.
On the palate, the wine is full and round, with soft acidity that imparts freshness. Flavors of peach, nectarine, lemon zest, and creamy notes blend with subtle oak notes. The texture is supple and layered, while the finish is long, smooth, and slightly spicy. The wine displays both maturity and vibrancy, clearly characteristic of the Reserve style.

The Bogle family has been growing wines since the nineteenth century. It wasn't until around 1968 that the family planted the first vines near Clarksburgh USA. After years of hard work, the Bogle family has more than 1,200 acres of viticulture in California. With the growth of the company, the family established a name within the wine world, both in America and abroad. The main reason for the success is that the family is engaged in the production of wine on a daily basis. The family understands that high quality wines start with excellent grape varieties. They ensure this by working organically with respect for the land and the environment. The story behind the pheasant on the labels of the wines is as follows. The family wanted a label that reflected the region of the vineyards. The family came into contact with the artist Paul Lorenzi, who was sketching the wines one evening. Suddenly a beautiful pheasant sat in the middle of the vineyard. The Bogle wines label was born!
Bogle Vineyards works organically. Bogle is certified by several agencies: California Certified Sustainable Winegrowing, Lodi Rules Certified Green Certificate and the “Sacramento Area Sustainable Business” Certificate.
