Description
Chardonnay is one of Marlborough's unknown heroes, but also a wine that can divide opinions! Jules' take on this grape is a distant echo of the big buttery Chardonnay bombs of the 1990s. Instead, Jules prefers a wine with delicate freshness and attractive fruity flavors that express the vineyards in which they are grown . With only 10% new oak and partial malolactic fermentation, this elegant wine is capable of converting even the most ardent Chardonnay haters!
In the glass, the Jules Taylor Chardonnay has a straw yellow color. On the nose, this wine is layered with fragrant aromas of red apple, nectarine and lemon peel, alongside roasted almond, nougat, a touch of spiciness and vanilla. On the palate, juicy apple and nectarine flavors are balanced by fresh citrus notes and refreshing acidity. Wild fermentation and barrel aging have added complexity, nutty nuances and a weighty texture. The wine ends in a dry, persistent, elegant aftertaste.
The delicious flavors in this wine are fantastic to combine with food. It's perfect with a simple grilled chicken or with fresh seafood like lobster tails and garlic butter. Alternatively, it would be sensational with corn cakes stacked with an arugula salad and a smoky salsa.

The clean and curvaceous 2021 Chardonnay (Marlborough) reflects the season's low yields in the concentrated juice. The acidity wraps a ribbon around its core, providing lipsmacking tension and length. There are zesty lemon and lime flavors alongside nectarine and an appetizing floral character, which may be due to the fermentation taking place naturally. The use of oak is subtle, allowing the purity of fruit to shine. Excellent value for money.

Founded, owned and operated in Marlborough by Jules and George, Jules Taylor Wines is the successful result of big dreams, hard work and a healthy dose of not taking ourselves too seriously. Born in Marlborough in the year the first vines were planted, Jules literally grew up with Sauvignon Blanc. Local maid Jules used her postgraduate diploma in viticulture and oenology for several years as a winemaker for one of Marlborough's largest wineries, and then as a Consultant Winemaker for the region's most prestigious brand.
In 2001, Jules Taylor Wines was created as a small side hustle with only 200 boxes. Five years, two children, and many, many late nights later, George and Jules made the nerve-wracking decision to risk it all, quit their day jobs, and give their dream a chance. Today, Jules makes her harvest decisions in the vineyard, purely on taste rather than through laboratory analyses. Regardless of the cost, Jules will only release a wine if she is completely satisfied that it has met her standards. Jules left her corporate winemaking career to give her the freedom to make wines the way she thinks they should be made. She only makes one batch of each wine per harvest. So enjoy it while you can. When it's gone, it's really gone.
