Description
About the Envinate winery
Envínate (translated as "wine yourself") is the spirit child of 4 friends, winemakers Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos and José Martínez. This group of 4 was formed in 2005 during their oenology training at the Miguel Hernandez University in Alicante. After graduating, they founded a wine consultancy, which evolved into Envínate, a project focused on exploring unique plots, mainly in the Atlantic Ocean-influenced regions of Ribeira Sacra and the Canary Islands. Their shared goal is to create deeply pure and authentic wines that express the terroir of each parcel in a clear and concise manner. To achieve this, no chemicals are used in Envínate's vineyards, all plots are harvested by hand, the grapes are trampled and the wines are fermented exclusively with wild yeasts, with a varying proportion of whole bunches of grapes. For maturation, the wines are aged in old barrels and concrete barrels, and sulfur is added only at bottling, if necessary. The results are some of the most exciting and honest wines produced in Spain today.
Grapes and tasting notes of the Envinate Lousas Vinas de Aldea
Aldea means "village" in Gallego; therefore, this is Envínate's "village wine", produced from a combination of at least 60 year old plots located in the ancient wine region of Ribeira Sacra. The native vines grow on steep slate slopes and are located between 400-600 meters altitude.
The Lousas Viñas de Aldea 2021 is a regional red wine from Ribeira Sacra, but is sold without a designation of origin. This wine is a blend of 80% Mencia, 4% Alicante Bouchet, 4% Brancellao (Albarello), 4% Godello, 2% Caiño, 2% Merenzao (Bastardo), 2% Mouraton, 1% Palomino, 1% Souson. The grapes were picked between September 12 and 28 and vinified in concrete and small plastic containers with 70% to 100% full bunches, depending on the plot, and aged in well-seasoned oak barrels of various ages with lees for 11 months without added sulfur.
It is a true Atlantic vintage: vertical and fine-grained, structured and with finesse, balance and freshness. The Aldea is a lively wine with notes of pepper, blackberry fruit and minerality. Chalky and broad on the palate, but truly weightless with chalky tannins and a fresh, refined finish.
