2022 was a warm and concentrated year in Pauillac, with excellent ripeness and healthy grapes. Thanks to the deep gravel soils, freshness and balance were preserved. The wines combine ripe structure with energy and definition, resulting in powerful yet balanced Pauillacs with aging potential.

Vineyards and grape varieties

The 2022 Château Batailley is blended from 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot. The gravelly soils provide good drainage and give the Cabernet its characteristic structure and aromatic precision. Merlot adds roundness, while Petit Verdot adds depth and spice.

Vinification and maturation

After careful selection, the grapes are vinified traditionally, followed by aging in oak barrels. The oak aging supports the structure and integrates the tannins without overpowering the terroir expression. The result is a classic Pauillac with clear focus and length.

Deep ruby red in color. The nose offers instantly recognizable notes of blackcurrant and graphite, complemented by violets and subtle floral nuances.

The palate is medium to full-bodied with intense yet refined tannins. The structure is taut and elegant, with distinct length and balance. Dark fruit, pencil shavings, and a fresh undertone give the wine a classic Pauillac signature. The finish is long, structured, and harmonious.
