Description
When you say 'wine' in Italy, you say 'Antinori'! This family has been making wine for over six centuries. With respect for the traditions of the Tuscan countryside, 26 successive generations of Antinori have been involved in this. It is the eye for tradition and innovation that has made the Antinori house what it is today: the top of Italy.
Villa Antinori is an important part of the Antinori wine empire as the name is associated with over 100 years of history and it produces the Villa Antinori Rosso and the highly sought after Villa Antinori Bianco.
Villa Antinori was originally produced in 1928 by Marchese Niccolò Antinori as a Chianti Classico that could age and improve with time. Shortly after, Villa Antinori became a highly sought-after wine in the most prestigious cellars of embassies, royal houses, important hotels and restaurants. In 1931, Villa Antinori Bianco was made from traditional Trebbiano grapes. In the 1980s, a small percentage of Chardonnay was added to give the wine better structure.
The 2020 growing season will be remembered as one of the coolest in the last five years at the Tenuta Monteloro estate. Well-distributed rain showers and average temperatures and even slightly below seasonal averages until mid-July. These climatic conditions encouraged a slow, normal growth of the vines and favored an optimal, balanced vegetative cycle. August was warm with scattered rainfall during the last days of the month, which guaranteed temperature variations of about 10 °C between day and night and this makes a wine elegant with sufficient fruit and acidity. By harvest time in mid-September, Pinot Bianco reached ideal ripeness with an excellent balance between sugar concentrations, acidity and aromatic components.
The harvested grapes were destemmed and gently pressed. The must was cooled to a temperature of 10 °C (50 °F) to promote natural clarification. After 48 hours, the clarified must was transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place at a temperature not exceeding 16 °C (61 °F). The wine was aged in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 10 °C (50 °F).
Only grapes from the very best Pinot Blanc vineyards on the Monteloro estate, located in the hills behind Fiesole, are used to make Villa Antinori. This is one of the historic wines of the Antinori family that has been given a new expression capable of expressing the harmony and sensations of an ancient territory known for the production of white wines.
The Villa Antinori Pinot Bianco is straw yellow in color with greenish hues. In the nose it is refined and elegant with notes of tropical fruit and hints of paprika, a little spice and a touch of citrus. The taste is full and rich with a long mineral finish.

More information about Antinori
Marquis Piero Antinori is in charge and is assisted by his three daughters: Albiera, Allegra and Alessia. Funny those three A's. We are not going to bother you with all the awards that have been received over the years, because then this price list can no longer go through the letterbox. There are two red wines that are available on allocation and that one would like to get a few bottles from all over the world and that are Tignanello and Solaia and we also have these in our range at Grandcruwijnen.
In 1180, Ugo and Antinori di Rinuccino were officially named as owners of Castello di Combiate; a century later, the family who had moved to Florence were included in the register of the silk trade cooperative. In 1385, Giovanni di Piero, an indirect descendant, entered the wine guild as an apprentice. Since then, the wine-growing tradition of the Antinori family has been continuous. With the establishment of the Marchesi Antinori winery, the peak was reached in 1895 and already in 1898 the winery was built in San Casciano Val di Pesa, which is still the center of the widely branched group of properties in all major cultivation areas of Tuscany, Umbria. , Piemonte (since the early 90s through the purchase of the wine cellar Prunotto), Apulia and even California. The traditional house participating in the modern Tuscan wine-growing revolution owes much of its prestige to its former chief vinologist Giacomo Tachis, who produced exceptional wines such as Sassicaia, Tignanello (especially sangiovese), Solaia (especially cabernet) and many others. the other was responsible. Vinologist Renzo Cotarella also created one of the best chardonnays in Italy in the Umbrian Castello della Sala.
