2021 Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru
This Premier Cru comes almost entirely from the Champs Gain and Vergers plots and shows the refined side of Chassagne in the cooler year of 2021.
Vineyard and origin
Champs Gain and Vergers are located higher up the slopes and are known for their fresh acidity and mineral precision. In 2021, a year with more tension and lower yields, the terroir characteristics were particularly evident.
The 2021 vintage
2021 was a classic, cooler year in Burgundy. The wines are less powerful than in warmer years, but display clarity, focus, and finesse. This results in wines with pronounced acidity, distinct citrus nuances, and a tight profile.
Color, smell and taste
Pale golden yellow with a bright sheen. The nose is pure and precise, with aromas of orchard fruit and subtle citrus. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine structure, combining notes of apple, pear, bitter lemon, and orange peel. The acidity adds tension and length. The finish is lingering and persuasive, with a fresh, slightly mineral note.
Structure and storage potential
The combination of fresh acidity, concentration, and subtle wood influence gives this Premier Cru ageing potential until around 2040. It will be available from 2025 but will develop additional complexity and depth with further bottle aging.

From: Servants of the Seasons: Burgundy 2021 (Jan 2023)
The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru is almost entirely from Champs Gain and Vergers. It has a clean and precise bouquet, quite focused, not powerful but nicely delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame orchard fruit, bitter lemon and orange rind notes. Good weight and concentration here with quite a persistent and convincing finish. Good potential.

Caroline Morey is a winemaker from Burgundy, known for her work with both red and white Burgundian wines.
History of Caroline Morey
Caroline Morey is the wife of winemaker Pierre-Yves Colin. She also comes from a wine family and is the eldest daughter of Jean-Marc Morey. In 2014, after her father's retirement, she took over part of the family's vineyards to start her own domain. Today she shares a winery in Chassagne-Montrachet with her husband. The Morey family has been in Chassagne since the mid-16th century and it was Albert Morey who first started bottling estates in 1950. The Morey family is a respected wine family in Burgundy, with a history dating back several generations. The family has played an important role in shaping the region's wine landscape, particularly in the Côte de Beaune. The Morey family's dedication to winemaking tradition, combined with an understanding of the importance of terroir, has contributed to the family's success in producing wines that capture the unique characteristics of Burgundy's diverse vineyards.
Production by Caroline Morey
The estate owns or has access to vineyards in several villages, including Chassagne-Montrachet and other prestigious areas. The specific vineyards can play a crucial role in shaping the character of the wines. While specific details about Caroline Morey's winemaking philosophy may vary, she is likely influenced by the traditional Burgundian approach to winemaking. This often involves a focus on expressing the unique terroir of each vineyard and allowing the characteristics of the grape variety to shine through in the final wines. Like many Burgundian producers, Caroline Morey produces both white and red wines. The characteristics of these wines can vary depending on the vineyard, vintage and winemaking practices. In total she has only 7 hectares of vineyards. All her wines are sustainable and her entire production is around 9000 bottles.
