Description
Morillon is genetically the same as the Chardonnay grape variety. The grapes are harvested by hand only when fully ripe, creating a wine that is powerful and elegant yet retains its freshness and acidity. Layered with fine notes of citrus and stone fruit on the nose. In the mouth the wine remains complex with a rich minerality. This wine has a precise, salty aftertaste.
The Polz family ferments the Morillon in oak and puts the wine through malolactic fermentation, which gives this wine a rounder and more pronounced mouthfeel than the regular Morillons that come from this area.
Weingut Polz has been owned for 4 generations by a winemaking family with a rich history rooted in the Südsteiermark region. The winery focuses on producing wines that are a reflection of the vineyard, region and grape variety.

Wijnhuis
Weingut Polz is located on the Grassnitzberg in Austria's southern wine region, Südsteiermark. This family business has a rich history that dates back to 1912, when Johann Polz took his first steps in viticulture. Today, the winery is run by the fourth generation, who continue to improve the quality of their grapes and wines with sustainable viticulture and modern technologies.
Although Austria is known for Grüner Veltliner, it is the Sauvignon Blanc grape that steals the show in Südsteiermark. About one fifth of the vineyard area in this region is planted with this grape variety. Sauvignon blanc thrives in the hilly landscape and the relatively mild climate with cool nights. The wines range from fresh and fruity to subtle and elegant.
Weingut Polz offers a wide range of wines, including the well-known Sauvignon Blanc, Weissburgunder and Morillon (local name for Chardonnay). All grapes are harvested by hand. The vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks or large wooden barrels. Everything is aimed at preserving the grape's own aromas and freshness.
In addition to making beautiful wines, Weingut Polz is also focused on sustainability and the preservation of biodiversity, and they try to minimize the impact of their winegrowing activities on the environment. They are currently in the process of converting to organic viticulture.
