Founded in 1907 and led by Gianfranco Gallo since 1978, Vie di Romans has made a name for itself as one of Friuli's top estates, respecting local terroirs in the Friuli-Isonzo region. The vineyards are located near the Isonzo River, on well-drained alluvial soils. The climate combines Adriatic warmth with cool crosswinds (Bora), ideal for preserving acidity and freshness. The Vie di Romans estate is located in the Isonzo – the lower part of Friuli – between the Adriatic Sea and Collio. Because the land warms up during the day and cools down at night, it is often windy here. These conditions are ideal for viticulture. The wind quickly dries the grapes when they are wet, so they require minimal pesticides.

Flors di Uis means "The Flowers of the Grape." It is a blend of Malvasia Istriana (approximately 55%), Rhein Riesling (approximately 31%), and Friulano (approximately 14%), originating from the Isonzo DOC in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Together they create a symphony of aromas, potent structure, and pleasure.

After hand-harvesting, the grapes undergo a cool pre-fermentation, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks (16–25°C) for approximately 16–25 days. The wine then matures for eight months on the lees in stainless steel, followed by nine months in the bottle before bottling. This method creates aromatic complexity and texture.

Flors di Uis reveals itself as a deep straw yellow to gold, with a green sheen. The nose reveals refined floral notes such as chamomile and jasmine, ripe white and yellow fruit—pear, apricot, peach—and minerality with citrus and honey accents. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with a fine balance of ripe fruit, fresh acidity, and light complexity. The palate evolves with notes of lime, wet stone, ginger, and a refined spiciness, with a clean, mineral finish. The mouthfeel is beautifully creamy and fleshy. The balance and aromatic intensity are absolutely spot-on. Always high marks from Parker and Suckling.

The house Vie di Romans is located in the Isonzo - the lower part of Friuli - between the Adriatic Sea and Collio. Because the country warms up during the day and cools down again at night, it often blows here. These conditions are ideal for wine growing. The wind quickly blows the grapes dry when wet, so they hardly need to be treated with pesticides.

Vie di Romans' Gianfranco Gallo was one of the first winemakers to see potential in the alluvial plain of Friuli. Thirty years ago he took over the domain from his father and in 1978 he released his first wine. Since 1990, almost all of his wines are monocépages (made from one and the same grape) from different vineyards. Gianfranco has its own style of wine making. He is particularly closely involved in every part of the process: from working in the vineyard to the cellar. He keeps the yields per hectare as low as possible and supervises the very strict use of pesticides - preferably none. The result is large, concentrated and complex wines that last a lifetime.
