Description
The Michele Chiarlo 2018 Barolo Cerequio is the first Barolo to be distributed worldwide through the Place du Bordeaux. Only the affiliated wine merchants (including Grand Cru wines) are able to obtain this wine
The Michele Chiarlo 2018 Barolo Cerequio comes from La Morra from a vineyard with an area of 2.5 Ha. The soil consists of calcareous marl of sedimentary marine origin from the Tortonian period (9 million years ago) which is characterized by an alkaline pH, poor in organic matter, but rich in microelements such as magnesium and manganese. The vineyard has a South, south-west exposure and is located at an altitude of 320 meters. Of course, harvesting is done by hand only. In the glass, this great Barolo has a ruby red color. In the nose, the wine is complex with a multitude of aromas of ripe fruit, mint, eucalyptus, herbs, red berries, crushed stone and rusty nail / iron. In the mouth, the wine has a rich palate in structure with a tight weave of fine tannins which stand out for its elegance and harmony that highlights this truly unique Barolo cru. At Chiarlo she indicates as a wine-food pairing: Egg with white d'Alba truffle, baked lamb steak, veal stewed in Barolo, Castelmagno cheese -

“ In reality, the first designs were truly ugly and anonymous… Yet, I had it so clear in my mind. At a certain point, I understood my mistake. I should not have worked towards a realistic representation but to a symbol. I needed to find a stylistic key and found it by observing the sketches made. The best were those in which the constructive lines overlapped the design like a cage, outlining its proportions, adding other borders to the forms ”. (Giancarlo Ferraris, label designer)

The Michele Chiarlo 2018 Barolo Cerequio opens to a pretty lacework of aromas with smaller berry fruits, crushed stone, rusty nail, pressed lilac or blue flower and a dusting of spicy licorice powder. The bouquet is vertical and tight, leading to a very precise succession of varietal tones that flavor the wine's polished finish. The Cerequio has ample power as well, with etched tannins that grip this Nebbiolo firmly to the palate.

The 2018 Barolo Cerequio is an attractive mid-weight wine. Dark red/cherry plum fruit, mocha, leather, spice and incense all grace this supple, silky Barolo. There's lovely creaminess and plenty of allure in this tasty Barolo from Michele Chiarlo.

Michele Chiarlo founded his winery in 1956 with one clear goal: to acquire vineyards in the best crus in Piemonte and thereby make wines that capture the essence of the terroir. Michele Chiarlo started his wine company in 1956. The region where he was born was chosen, Canelli, near Asti in the Region of Piedmont. Here he could make his dream come true in the most unbelievably beautiful wine region in the world.
Tradition, discipline and passion with great care for the land and nature were the most important starting points for him. The company now has 120 hectares of vineyards in Monferrato, the Langhe, (La Morra and Barolo) and the Gavi regions. He has also been the driving force behind the new Barbera Nizza DOC. At Michele Chiarlo, the focus of each vineyard is on the individual terroir and the individuality of the wines. From 2022, the top model, the Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cerequio, will be the first Barolo Cru to be offered via the Place de Bordeaux (this is where selected wine merchants around the world are allowed to buy, including, of course, Grandcru wines).
Michele Chiarlo is one of the few wineries to have a star in the Gambero Rosso. You only get this star if you drink 10x a tre bicchieri or-too-three red glasses, the highest rating of a wine.
