Late releases are vintages of which the winery has kept a portion in their own cellars to store them for their own 'library' and of these they (sometimes) release a number of cases in small doses after often a long period. Often the vintages that are special and still have a long life ahead of them. Given our good relationship with the wineries and negocians and because we are an official wine merchant, we are also offered these kinds of 'specials'.

The Château Palmer 2009 is an exceptional wine from the Margaux appellation, classified as a 3ème Grand Cru Classé. This vintage is considered one of the best ever produced by the château. The harvest takes place in September and early October, with vinification by plot. Fermentation takes place at lower temperatures in conical stainless steel vats, with a gentle extraction. The wine is then transferred to barrels for malolactic fermentation and matured in oak barrels for 20 to 22 months.

The Palmer 2009 is deep garnet in colour with a seductive palette of black fruits – warm plums, cassis and black cherry compote – enriched with notes of kirsch and wild sage, alongside deep accents of fragrant earth, black truffles, iron ore and liquid licorice. On the palate this wine is full and rich, with a seductively decadent structure. The generous fruitiness is beautifully framed by velvety tannins and a seamless freshness, ending in a long, mineral-infused finish. This wine is praised for its balance of power and elegance, with a rare blend of richness and refinement. It is ready to drink now, but has the potential to age for another 30-40 years.

Château Palmer is located in the heart of the Margaux appellation in the Bordeaux wine region. The 66 hectares of vineyards have a gravel soil and the vines overlook the Gironde River. The area with its rich ancient history and nourishing microclimate is a fantastic environment for the vines. Here they can flourish and grow under the passionate care of the people of Château Palmer. Behind every great wine is a great terroir. This is also the case at Château Palmer, which is located on a long strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde. The land is well drained, rich in the deposits of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. It is difficult soil for agriculture, but exceptional for grapes. Of course, the vines also need good care in order to perform optimally. And that is certainly entrusted to the employees of Château Palmer! Full of passion and love for the vines, they cultivate the demanding terroir. The people of this winery are more than just colleagues. Together they embrace the common core values of Château Palmer and are therefore extremely dynamic, curious, passionate, open-minded and determined. In short, they live for and with the vineyards.
