Description
At Recaredo, the bottles are disgorged by hand without freezing the neck. Recaredo's Cavas are among the pinnacle in the field of sparkling wines and the quality in many cases exceeds the well-known champagne houses. Together with Mestres , Recaredo is the Masters in the field of Long Aged Cavas and, almost without exception, they beat many well-known champagne brands, especially when price is taken into account, because in our opinion they beat all French colleagues.
The Recaredo Turó d'en Mota stands for elegance squared: a unique vineyard, a single grape variety, a vintage and a production of only 2,874 bottles and only became available in 2024. It is a terroir wine in the broadest sense; in other words, the expression of an area with very calcareous soil with a Mediterranean microclimate. Grown without intervention, this Recaredo Turó d'en Mota undergoes a long and careful aging of at least 13 years in contact with the lees and this gives it the most subtle and complex nuances.
The Turó d'en Mota vineyard was planted in 1940 and is located in the northwest corner of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia in the Corpinnat area, on the north side of a hill called Turó d'en Mota, from which it takes its name (turó means hill in Catalan). The Corpinnat area is the birthplace of great sparkling wines in the historic wine-growing region of the Penedès south of Barcelona, where at the end of the XIX century winemaking of sparkling wines was started according to the traditional method (Method Traditionelle or twel Methode Campenoise). The Turó d'en Mota is made from grapes harvested from a 0.97 hectare vineyard located on a slope with a northeasterly exposure and sheltered by the forests that cover the hill. The Turó d'en Mota is only made in exceptional years.
The 2010 vintage represents strength, with highly expressive fruits and lively acidity that testify to the almost infinite aging potential of this authentic terroir wine. Elegant and full of life, the Turó d'en Mota shows the character of a vintage shaped by a warm winter and a particularly rainy spring and has a perfect balance between elegance, delicacy and intensity. A wine that will take your breath away and should not be missing (especially given the incredible aging potential) in a beautiful wine cellar and wine collection. The wine is packaged in OWC/3 duys. When you order 3 bottles, we deliver the wine in the box.

ABOUT CORPINNAT
Recaredo is part of Corpinnat, which was founded in 2016 by a number of (high-end) producers who have distanced themselves from DO Cava mainly because no distinction can be made in quality in the CAVA model. Corpinnat, just like Cava (or Champagne), is a sparkling wine that is made using the traditional method, i.e. through a second fermentation in the bottle, which creates the bubbles and is therefore a brand name founded by a number of quality producers who wanted to distinguish themselves. With Corpinnat as protected. brand (such as a Grandcru or a Grande Reserva), not only the region determines the naming, but also the terroir and that is much more than just the area; it is also about climate, grape varieties, the vineyard and the winery.

Their top wine is the single-vineyard Xarel.lo 2008 Turó d'en Mota, named after the origin of the grapes. 2008 was an exceptional year in the zone, and the wine fermented in 300-liter oak barrels and then was put to referment in bottle, where it spent no less than 155 months (12 years and 11 months!) with the lees. 2008 produced healthy clusters of extraordinary acidity, ideal for the long aging, and it has only 11% alcohol, an incredible pH of 3.02 and six grams of tartaric acid. Maybe I'm influenced but the nose, but the aromatic palette from this wine is completely different from the rest of the portfolio, with green olives, curry, spices, toast and smoke and wet chalk, all in a very subtle way. This has density, fine tannins and citrus freshness that makes you salivate. This is a superb white wine that happens to have bubbles... A completely different wine, full of personality and character. This feels very young and undeveloped, as it's aging at a glacial pace. Winemaker Ton Mata told me other 2008s have evolved in a very positive way. The wine has been certified organic and biodynamic since the 2010 vintage. 4,317 numbered bottles produced.
Recaredo is one of the leading producers of sparkling wines, now under the collective brand Corpinnat (in the past, in the Cava DO), and since the 2017 vintage, it keeps moving in the direction to use only organic must to provoke the second fermentation in bottle, something they started working on in 2013. Of course, all their vineyards, 90 hectares, and wines (280,000 bottles) are certified organic and biodynamic, but they don't print the Demeter certification on the label because it has a very high cost.
Incredibly enough, they didn't export any wine in 2007, and today the export market only represents 20% of their volume. They are the best producer of sparkling wine from Spain.

The still young and somewhat reticent 2006 Turó d'en Mota is from an average year—not too warm, not too cold and with normal rain—and it matured for a very long time in bottle with the lees. The nose is a great combination of baked apples, Mirabelle plums, pine needles, smoke and stones, and it has great density, structure and intense minerality, with a drying, chalky sensation on the palate. It's quite different from the 2008 Reserva Particular that I tasted next to it and represented hard competition. Today I give the edge to the Reserva Particular, but only in the style of the vintage. 4,864 bottles produced.
Recaredo has also left the Cava appellation along with the rest of the Corpinnat group. They are working to produce wines with the second fermentation in bottle without adding cane sugar, using must from their own vines and with indigenous yeasts.

The Mata family of Recaredo Cava has been making high-quality cavas since 1924. Their estate is situated in the Grand Cru area for Spanish cavas: Sant Sadurni d'Anoia, Vilobi de Penedes, Subirat and Torralavit in the Alt Penedes. The third, fourth and fifth generations are currently active in the company and still produce very high quality cava. Recaredo is a winery run by a family of winegrowers who specialize in high quality brut nature sparkling wines with the distinctive character resulting from long maturation and together with Mestres they are the absolute masters of Long-aged Cavas and are Parker compared to the Tondonias among the Cavas. At Recaredo they produce unprecedented high quality wines that are aged for a very long time and are made organic / biodynamic (certified).
Since 2006, all 50 hectares of their vineyards are cultivated according to DEMETER regulations. The grapes are picked by hand and fermented separately for each plot in their own cellar. They only use 40% of the must, only the first juice released after bruising is good enough for their cava. The fermentation of the must takes place partly in oak and partly in a steel tank. After fermentation and assembling of the still wine, the bottles are filled and capped with a natural cork to disappear for a period of between 30 and 120 months in the beautiful cellars of Recaredo. Every 14 months the bottles are shaken and moved to 'move' the yeast present in the bottle. According to Ton Mata, this ensures a better development of the taste. When the bottles are ready for disgorgement, they are moved to Pupitres where they are turned by hand so that the yeast plug slowly descends to the neck.
Recaredo is very committed to the Penedès region and produces in an honest way, without any artifice - great wines from its own vineyards and even since 2014 has started working exclusively with historical varieties from the Penedès region: Xarel lo, Parellada and Macabeu for sparkling whites and Garnacha and Monastrell for rosés. The Xarel·lo variety, typical of the ancient Penedès wine region, accounts for 60% of the vineyard area. The variety's long aging ability, Xarel-lo backbone and acidity make it a perfect choice for the base of our top quality sparkling wines, which with very long aging yields exceptionally fine wines.
Recaredo wines are characterized by their essentially gourmet style, a character marked by elegance and subtlety that has impressed the most discerning food and wine critics, including contributors to The New York Times, the prestigious La Revue de Vin de France, Le Monde and the influential American publication Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
The cornerstone of Recaredo's philosophy as grape growers and winemakers is a respectful alliance between people and land. They (and we) believe that a fine wine is one that reflects the land of its birth. That is why they only make vintage sparkling wines, which means that they are wines from a specific year and not a blend of years. They also practice biodynamic agriculture, an approach that goes one step further than organic. In 2010, Recaredo was the first winemaker in the Penedès region to obtain a certification for biodynamic viticulture; and in 2013, the first winemaker in the area to be accepted as a member of La Renaissance des Appellations, a prestigious international association of biodynamic winegrowers. In the vineyard, they only intervene when absolutely necessary, always striving to maintain the balance of the ecosystem, respecting the land in order to achieve the truest expression of each vintage. At Recaredo, we always prioritize natural balances and respect for biodiversity and the environment. We work our vineyards without herbicides, insecticides or synthetic chemicals and only use organic fertilizers of natural origin, which are composted ourselves.
Long Aged Cava
Like sentries patiently waiting in silence, Recaredo's bottles remain in the darkness of the cellars for at least 30 months (two and a half years) until they take on a truly unique character. In the case of Recaredo's most exclusive family collections, some of the sparkling wines are aged for almost 30 years, preserving the delicacy of the time and a wealth of elegant and complex nuances.
