Chateau La Tour Carnet

Named after the medieval squire, Jean Carnet, who helped his lord to resist the French monarchy at the end of the Hundred Years War, Château La Tour Carnet played an important role in the revolution of the Médoc vineyard. The quality of the wine is rewarded by its entry in the classification of 1855 Grands Crus Classés. Château La Tour Carnet is one of the oldest Bordeaux wine producers in the Médoc. In fact, some parts of the building, including the round tower, date back to the 11th century. Château La Tour Carnet is one of the few estates in Bordeaux with a moat and drawbridge. Since purchasing the estate in 2000, Bernard Magrez has returned the chateau, cellars and the estate's 311 hectares to their heyday, combining cutting-edge technology with traditional savoir-faire. In the words of the previous caretaker of this national monument, Marie-Claire Pèlegrin, Bernard Magrez's mission here is to "cut the diamond".

The terroir is top because of its location, very close to St. Julien (Ch. Lagrange and Ch. Gruaud Larose are the neighbors). The vines are starting to get a respectable age (30 years on average) and that is paying off. The triple triage (1 time in the vineyard, a 2nd time on a vibrating table and the 3rd time with an optical eye) also ensure a very pure taste, because only the most beautiful berries make it into the wine. Ch. La Tour Carnet therefore belongs to the 5 best of the appellation. The advisor is Michel Rolland.
