Description
The Chateau Changyu Moser XV (张裕摩塞尔十五世酒庄) Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc de Noir is made by Lenz M. Moser - the head winemaker of Chateau Changyu Moser XV who spends the entire harvest period in Ningxia. The wine is also bottled Mise en bouteille au château / Estate Bottled. This Blanc de Noir is absolutely the very first white Cabernet Sauvignon from China. Its color, texture and flavor profile are completely new in the world.
This white Cabernet Sauvignon resembles a rosé with a very light salmon-colored cast but is technically a white wine because the color comes from the juice and not the skin maceration as with a rosé. This stainless steel-aged wine is wonderfully fresh and almost unique in its taste with a great acidity of 5.8 g / L. The wine has grip and freshness and despite the impression of a certain "sweetness" in the mouth, the wine is bone dry with less than 2g residual sugar. The small berries give a lot of extraction (approx. 25% more than with European Cabernet Sauvignon grapes); due to the extremely dry climate, the skin-to-juice ratio produces more solids in the wine - thus also a unique concentration of fruit flavors.
On the nose delicious aromas of grapefruit peel, lemon combined with aromas of exotic fruits. On the palate delicious, generous yet elegant and spicy on the palate. The profile of this unique wine lies between a typical unmacerated Chardonnay and a spicy Old World Sauvignon Blanc - introducing a completely new flavor profile.

Onno Kleyn - Volkskrant
"There are wine stories for which this column does not have enough space. And I have already wasted 21 words. Well, then: Austrian Lenz Moser, a winegrower without vineyards, became a partner at the Chinese Château Changyu 20 years ago, he tells me via Zoom. The aim of the company was to make top wine, but only Cabernet Sauvignon was planted on the 450 hectares of vineyards – the Chinese had no interest in white wine. Moser did. That is why there is now a white one, made from blue grapes, a 'blanc de noir'. The Helan Mountain Range 'barrique' is chicly matured on oak, floral, exotic, beautifully balanced. In any case, the wines are super chic, skillfully made, concentrated and elegant"
ABOUT NINGXIA
There are currently about 900 wineries in China (compared to Australia: 2,000 - USA: 7,100 - France: 27,000 - Austria: 6,500 - Germany: 6,500). Nearly 800,000 hectares are planted with vines, making China the sixth largest wine producing country in terms of area, producing about 13 million hectoliters of wine per year.
Ningxia is located approximately 1,330 kilometers west of Beijing. It is situated in Central-Western China on the edge of the Gobi Desert and is fed by the Yellow River which originates in the clean and natural Tibetan Plateau. With the aridity of the land and longer hours of sunlight than normal during the growing season (around 3,000 - compared to Bordeaux's average of 2,052 hours), the berries are allowed to ripen fully, developing a full fruit character. The grapes have ideal growing conditions in the Helan Mountains, 1,100 meters above sea level. The altitude and the desert with its hot daytime temperatures and cold nights helps the wines to retain their freshness and this is why Chinese wines from this region are very much in demand.

Château Changyu Moser XV or in good Chinese 张裕摩塞尔十五世酒庄 is without a doubt the most famous Chinese Winery. It is the very first Winery in China founded in 1892 by Zhang Bishi, an overseas Chinese diplomat.
He decided to start his pioneering winery in Yantai and named it "Zhang Yu Wine Company". He imported more than 500,000 vines from the US and Europe, paving the way for modern Chinese wine production, supported by an Austrian viticulturist: August Wilhelm Baron von Babo. After more than 120 years of growth, CHANGYU today is a group with international shareholders such as ILLVA (Italy, Amaretto di Saronno) and IFC (International Finance Corporation, USA), which owns and operates eight chateaux and wineries throughout China. Its portfolio includes wine, brandy, sparkling wine and healthy liqueur and is well received in more than 20 countries. CHANGYU is also the largest Chinese wine producer with a large market share.
In 2015, Lenz founded LENZ M. MOSER PROJECTS with the clear goal of choosing only very few, but very special projects in the new wine world and to inspire his partners with his 30 years of experience and know-how.Lenz Maria Moser is the fifth generation from the Austrian wine family Lenz Moser and 15th in the direct line of the Moser family. The family has been active in the wine trade since 1610, with the first mention of the Moser family in their native village of Rohrendorf (Lower Austria) dating back to 1124. Lenz had a double university education in Austria's Klosterneuburg in business and oenology. Even with his formal education, Lenz attributes his understanding of the fundamentals of life and his winemaking knowledge to his grandfather, the legendary Professor Dr. Lorenz Moser III., who invented and developed the ubiquitous Austrian trellising system called the "Lenz Moser Hocherziehung". , which revolutionized vineyard cultivation across Europe.
Lenz's impressive wine career began at Lenz Moser Winery (Austria's premier wine producer) as General Manager for 10 years. In 1997, Lenz was asked to join Robert Mondavi as General Manager Europe, where he established the European branch and led the pioneering American wine company for nine years until it was sold to the Constellation Group. In 2005, Lenz returned to his Austrian roots by founding LAURENZ V. with two partners. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, who helped to promote Grüner Veltliner from a minor grape variety in the late 1920s to the number one Austrian grape. Lenz and his partners have become the modern ambassadors of the variety and stick to the mission of establishing Austria's signature grape as a variety among the best white wines in the world. His second activity from 2005 was acting as CEO of an import company in Germany, bringing wines from 10 countries to Europe. In this capacity, he first met the people of Changyu in 2005, developing a close relationship with the leaders of this great and pioneering company. In 2015 they decided on a joint project: Chateau Changyu Moser XV, a collaboration with the great goal of producing the best and most important wines in China.
