the zuccardi family and the uco valley

Zuccardi Valle de Uco is a family-owned winery now run by the third generation. The estate has built an international reputation as a pioneer in terroir-driven wines from the Andes. Sebastián Zuccardi's philosophy is clear: wines must reflect the identity of their origin, with maximum transparency. Named "Winery of the Year" several times, the winery is known for its innovative yet true-to-nature approach, which centers on concrete vats, organic principles, and respect for biodiversity.

the terroir of gualtallary monasterio

El Camino de Las Flores comes from Finca Las Cerrilladas, located in Gualtallary Monasterio in the Uco Valley. The vineyard lies at an altitude of 1,360 meters, at the foot of the Jaboncillo Hills. It enjoys an authentic mountain climate with warm summers, cool nights, and a distinctly dry character. The soils consist of caliche, gravel, and stones covered with a layer of limestone, which gives the wines a pronounced minerality and tension. The plots border dry streambeds, surrounded by wild vegetation that blooms profusely in spring. This inspired the wine's name: El Camino de Las Flores.

the harvest and style of 2024

The 2024 growing season was characterized by healthy grapes and excellent balance. Although the summer was warm and dry, the wines reveal the freshness and elegance of a cooler year. The Chardonnay from this vineyard offers aromas of herbs, flowers, and white fruit, with pronounced tension and lively acidity. This makes the 2024 an expressive wine that is both refined and powerful.

vinification and maturation

The grapes were harvested by hand and carefully selected. Direct pressing was followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats. The wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation or oak aging. This results in a pure and transparent style, in which the minerality and freshness of the terroir are fully expressed. The wine was bottled without bâtonnage to preserve its tension and energy.

color, smell and taste

The 2024 Zuccardi El Camino de Las Flores opens with a refined bouquet of green apple, pear, dried white flowers, chamomile, and fresh herbs. Subtle notes of candle wax and a hint of tropical fruit add further depth. On the palate, the wine displays a compact density perfectly supported by lively acidity. The structure is slender and precise, with a long, mineral finish that is simultaneously weightless and intense. This is a Chardonnay with a distinct mountain character, elegant and powerful, with a fresh tension that invites further aging.

reviews and storage potential

The Wine Advocate awarded the 2024 vintage 95+ points. Matthew Luczy praises the energetic style, the pure expression of terroir, and the impressive balance between density and freshness. He expects the wine to develop even more texture and complexity in the coming years. The wine has excellent aging potential: it could easily age from 2026 to 2036 and develop even deeper. Ratings: 95+ Wine Advocate, 96 James Suckling, 97 Vinous, 97 Jeb Dunnuck, 95 Decanter

The Zuccardi family came to Argentina from Italy at the end of the 19th century. In the 1950s, Alberto V. Zuccardi, the father of current director José Alberto Zuccardi, started an irrigation company; a good choice, because virtually no agriculture and arable farming can take place in Argentina without irrigation. To prove how well the irrigation company worked, Alberto planted the first vineyards in Maipú in 1963. Ten years later, he purchased a new vineyard site east of Mendoza. His son José Alberto has been in charge of the wine company since 1985. The company has since built up an international reputation. For example, they have been chosen several times as 'The World Best Vineyard' in South America and the wines are rated with the highest scores, with even regular outliers of 100 Parker points.
