Description
Herdade do Sobroso is located in Vidigueira in the Alentejo region. This is one of the oldest wine regions in Portugal. In the beautiful Alentejo, Herdade do Sobroso has a perfect location with its vineyards located on the banks of the Guadiana River and its tributary Rio dos Patos or the river of the ducks. The trademark is therefore the duck on the labels. It is the perfect setting for ripening the grapes and only a few vineyards have this luxury and this partly explains why this winery can make very fine wines because there is never a water debt. In addition to the fact that there is sufficient water, this region is the only one within the Alentejo with the influence of the ocean that ensures healthy ripening.
Vidigueira is known for its warm, dry climate with cool nights, ideal for grapes that retain lively acidity and aromatic freshness. The soil is composed of argilo-xistoso (clay shale), which contributes to the minerality and structure of the wine. The conditions in this region are particularly favourable for the production of refined rosés, with a beautiful balance between fruit and freshness.
For the Cellar Selection series, the best grapes from selected plots are picked by hand. This very fine rosé wine is a 100% Syrah. The fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel at a very low temperature for a long period of 28-32 days and then matured for 6 months. This is not just any rosé, but this is a fabulous wine in our eyes. Almost no sugar (0.3g per liter) and not too exaggerated in its alcohol (12.5%) so incomparable with the many 'strawberry sweet rosé's or acidified rosé's (add acid to disguise the sweetness). This is quality with a capital K. The wine has a beautiful very light color (yes it could almost have been a Provence rosé). The rosé is fresh, lush and very attractive with raspberry and tropical fruit. The wine has a long and intense aftertaste and a pleasant bitterness in the aftertaste. In 1 word we would best describe the wine as Elegant. This is also a wine that gains some extra depth with 1-2 years of aging.
The Sobroso Cellar Selection Rose is gastronomically very versatile and perfect with a Fruit du Mer, a nice fried sea bream or a sea bass in a salt crust.

1. Grilled salmon with lime and coriander
The fruity freshness of the rosé harmonizes perfectly with the fattiness of the salmon. The fresh acidity in the wine cuts through the fat of the fish and the tropical notes connect with the citrus and fresh herbs.
2. Salad with goat cheese, raspberries and walnuts
The raspberry notes present in the wine complement the fruit in the salad. The light acidity and elegant structure make it a perfect match with soft goat cheese and nutty elements.
3. Chicken skewers marinated in yoghurt, garlic and cumin
This spicy, but not too spicy chicken comes into its own next to the fresh and fruity tones of the rosé. The wine refreshes the palette and provides balance with the spicy character of the marinade.
4. Thai rice noodles with shrimp and lime leaf
The tropical fruitiness of the wine enhances the fresh character of the dish. Shrimp and lime leaf provide an aromatic dimension that fits nicely with the expressive nose of the rosé.
5. Tuna tartare with mango and avocado
The soft texture of the tuna is accentuated by the acidity of the wine, while the tropical notes of mango and avocado complement the fruity character of this rosé. The long finish holds up well next to the intensity of raw fish.
6. Roasted beetroot with burrata and balsamic vinegar
The earthy sweetness of beetroot is beautifully contrasted by the fresh acidity in the wine. The creaminess of the burrata is given extra tension by the lively fruit aromas of the rosé, making for a harmonious combination.
