Description
At Geografico, each vineyard that comes under management is evaluated by the geologist and the vineyard specialist. They advise on the best grape varieties and rootstocks. They then help the owner with the layout of the vineyard and with the constant vineyard management. An expert team of winemakers makes the wine. Finally, there are 'state of the art' bottling lines. This quality philosophy is combined with a focus on terroir: the grapes for the higher wines always come from one vineyard and are therefore named after their domain. The wines are produced in a classical way with little intervention in the vinification process. This results in honest wines, pleasant to drink wines, which are also competitively priced.
San Gimignano is the 'Manhattan of the Middle Ages' and a beautiful place but it is also an appellation where unique wines are made from the Vernaccia di San Gimignano from which a dry white wine is made that is produced exclusively in the Italian municipality of San Gimignano in the Tuscany region. The DOCG Vernaccia di San Gimignano was the very first DOC of Italy, it was established in 1966. In 1993 this designation of origin was promoted to the DOCG status that it still has today. At least 85% of the grapes used for the wine must be Vernaccia and this Geografico Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a 100% Vernaccia.
In the glass the wine is light yellow with an elegant and aromatic nose with lots of white fruit and some herbs. In the mouth surprisingly fresh and fruity, with a good structure and a light bitterness that gives the wine power. Just a wonderful glass of wine.
WINE-FOOD SUGGESTIONS
Bruschetta with tomato and basil
The fresh acids of the Vernaccia match beautifully with the juicy tomato and the spiciness of basil.Grilled zucchini with lemon and olive oil
The mineral notes of the wine go well with grilled vegetables, while lemon highlights the fresh side of the wine.Salad with fennel, orange and walnuts
The combination of aniseed fennel, fresh citrus and nutty walnuts perfectly matches the fresh and slightly spicy character of Vernaccia.Spaghetti vongole (with clams)
The salty cockles and garlic pair beautifully with the wine's tight acidity and light bitterness.
