Geografico Chianti Colli Senesi 2024 is an elegant red wine from Tuscany, made primarily from Sangiovese grapes. It comes from the hills surrounding Siena, an area known for Chiantis with fresh red fruit, soft tannins, and a spicy finish. This vintage combines vibrant acidity with supple fruit and a pure, classic Tuscan style.

Origin and climate of the Chianti Colli Senesi

The Colli Senesi region lies south of Florence, around the city of Siena. Part of the larger Chianti DOCG, the area is known for its varied soils of clay, sandstone, and limestone. The vineyards are situated on hillsides with abundant sunshine and the cooling influence of the Apennines. This produces grapes with ripe fruit and a natural freshness, the key to the distinctive Chianti style.

The grape varieties consist primarily of Sangiovese , supplemented with small amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino. The vines are planted on slopes where the wind can blow freely through the bunches, resulting in healthy grapes. The combination of altitude, sun, and soil conditions produces wines with a fresh structure, a light spiciness, and aromas of cherries and strawberries.

Vinification and flavor profile of the Chianti Colli Senesi 2024

After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve the fruity aromas. A short aging in large oak barrels rounds out the wine and adds extra softness. Geografico's style remains true to classic Chianti: pure, vibrant, and balanced.

In the glass, the wine has a bright ruby red color. The nose opens with aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and violets , followed by a hint of thyme and white pepper. On the palate, the wine is smooth with fresh acidity and subtle tannins. The taste reveals juicy red fruit with a light spice and a hint of almond on the finish. The balance between fruit and freshness makes the wine easy to drink and also delicious.

The 2024 vintage is characterized by its precision and bright fruit. It is a modern interpretation of the classic Chianti style: accessible, lively, and with a light mineral note that gives the wine depth.

Wine and food pairings and serving tips

The Geografico Chianti Colli Senesi 2024 is ideal with Tuscan cuisine. Serve it with pasta in tomato sauce, mushroom risotto, or grilled chicken with rosemary. It also pairs beautifully with antipasti featuring cured meats and hard cheeses like pecorino or parmesan. Its fresh acidity makes it a delightful accompaniment to both light and savory dishes.

Serve the wine slightly chilled at about 16 degrees Celsius . Give it a few minutes of air in the glass for extra expression.

The company 'Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico' was founded in 1961. It was a cooperative that has since been taken over by Piccini. At Geografico, each vineyard that comes under management is evaluated by the geologist and the vineyard specialist. They give advice on the best grape varieties and rootstocks. They then assist the owner in setting up the vineyard and constantly in vineyard management. An expert winemaker team makes the wine. Finally, there are state of the art bottling lines. This quality philosophy is combined with terroir-orientation: the grapes for the higher wines always come from one vineyard and are therefore named after their domain. The wines are produced in a classical way with little intervention in the vinification process. This results in honest wines, pleasantly drinkable wines, which are also competitively priced.
