Description
AND FIRST OFFER VALID UNTIL 31/12/2026 - DELIVERY SPRING 2027
The Gazin 2024 has the predicate: “The most affordable wine from the famous Pomerol plateau!” In 2024 there was -60% in volume, so this will be one of the scarcest wines in this price range.
Ch. Gazin was once a barn of the order of the "Hospitaliers de Saint-Jean de Jérusalem", as their sign (a red cross) on the label still bears witness. With its 24.4 ha in one piece, it is one of the largest properties in Pomerol. The owner is Mr. Nicolas de Baillencourt. The soil is of very high quality, pebbles with clay with the typical subsoil full of "crasse de fer". In the 70s, the owner even sold a piece of this to Ch. Pétrus. This is a Pomerol with very great class. Château Gazin borders Château Petrus. That already says a lot. First-class, that is what you can safely call the taste of this intense wine.
The 2024 Château Gazin from Pomerol is an elegant and approachable wine that beautifully reflects the charm of the Right Bank area. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon , from grapes harvested by hand at optimum ripeness. The Merlot was picked between 20 and 30 September, followed by the Cabernet Sauvignon on 3 October 2024.
The wine has an alcohol percentage of 13.5% and matured for 14 to 16 months in barriques, half of which are new and half of second passage. This combination of barrel types ensures refinement, preservation of aromatic freshness and a nice balance between wood and fruit.
Tasting notes:
The colour is deep purple, with refined aromas of blueberries, blackberries, peony and a hint of menthol on the nose. In the mouth the wine is round and fleshy, with fine, well-integrated tannins. The whole is harmonious and silky, with a fresh undertone that ensures drinkability and ageing potential. The 2024 Gazin is already attractive in its youth, but will continue to develop and show its full potential between 2029 and 2034.

1. Roast chicken with tarragon cream sauce and roasted root vegetables
The creamy sauce complements the roundness of the wine, while the tarragon and roasted vegetables accentuate the spicy and floral notes.
2. Lamb rack with garlic, rosemary and lentils
The lamb softens the tannins, and the combination with lentils gives structure and earthy depth that fits nicely with the wine's profile.
3. Tagliatelle with mushrooms, Parmesan and sage butter
Mushrooms bring out the umami, which enhances the fruity character of the wine. The cheese and herbs provide extra layers.
4. Duck breast with beetroot and raspberry jus
The juicy structure of the meat matches the soft tannins, while the combination of earthy beetroot and fresh fruit notes elegantly supports the wine.
5. Baked veal sweetbreads with cauliflower cream and hazelnut
The dish's creamy texture perfectly matches Gazin's velvety style, while cauliflower and nuts provide balance and depth.
6. Scallops with celeriac puree, apple and a touch of truffle
The delicate scallops and creamy celeriac bring out the elegant character of the wine. Apple provides freshness, and truffle adds complexity.

From: 2024 Bordeaux En Primeur: The Razor’s Edge (Apr 2025)
The 2024 Gazin is classy and elegant, even if it is a bit strict at this stage. Rose petal, mint, blood orange and cinnamon meld into a core of red-toned fruit. There's gorgeous textural depth and resonance here. Clean saline notes extend the finish. All this needs is a bit of polish and pliancy in the mid-palate, but élevage should take care of that. Gazin is distinguished in 2024 by its unusually high presence of Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), along with 90% Merlot and no Cabernet Franc in this vintage. Harvest started on September 20. Tasted three times.
