Description
Region and location: Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen
The Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen is a Grand Cru vineyard on steep terraces of red Permian lava schlieren and weathered slate. The southwestern slope reaps maximum sun and the soil retains little water. This stress produces extremely concentrated fruit with intense minerality.
Climate and soil in the Nahe region
The Nahe region combines a cool continental climate with large differences between day and night. In the warm microclimate of Frühlingsplätzchen the grapes ripen slowly and perfectly. The stony, low-fertility soil enhances the freshness and tension in the wine.
Production process of the 2023 Frühlingsplätzchen Riesling GG
For the 2023, grapes are hand-picked in small baskets and rigorously selected. After gentle pressing, the must ferments spontaneously in stainless steel. The wine matures for several months on the fine lees, without filtration. This preserves purity, texture and terroir expression. Production is deliberately small, which emphasizes exclusivity.
Analysis of smell, color and taste of the 2023 edition
Colour : bright light yellow with green reflections.
Nose : aromas of white flowers, green apple, grapefruit, lime zest, angelica and a mineral touch.
Mouth : dry and tight, with lively acidity, salty minerality and an energetic, long finish. The structure is linear, elegant and pure.
Drinking advice and storage potential
This 2023 is already exciting, but will only really come into its own between 2028 and 2038. Its high acidity, minerality and structure will likely see it develop until at least 2045. Drinking young is possible, but leave the bottle open for a few hours or open it a day in advance to allow complexity to awaken.

The 2023 Frühlingsplätzchen GG from Tim Fröhlich is coolish, spicy, mineral and grippy on the nose that reveals delicate notes of yeast and slate. Powerful, dense and almost opulent on the palate but then, suddenly, as precise as a Dürer yet with the verve of a Rubens. The wine is dense and reveals a powerful, long-lasting finish. Tasted at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewächs in Wiesbaden in August 2024.

All the charm of spring, just as the name of this great site promises. Stacks of pink grapefruit, dried herb and wet stone character. This has impressive concentration and minerality, but also a juiciness that makes it a delight to drink right away. Moderate acidity in this context, but also a long, very pure finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink from release.

The global demand for Schäfer-Fröhlich wines is constantly increasing, as is the quality. Every new year seems like a new milestone for what Tim Fröhlich is capable of. The wines are exceptionally beautiful, perfectly balanced and have fantastic fruit. The success of Schäfer-Fröhlich is huge. For example, his dry riesling and the spätlese riesling were both named the best in Germany at the 'Königsdisziplinen des deutschen Rieslings' and in the Gault Millau 2013 his spätleses finished in 1st and 4th place.
Tim Fröhlich is called 'the master of spontaneous fermentation', and according to the Gault Millau, the prices of his wines in an international context are 'a joke'. And as Eichelmann says in his eponymous guide: "The wines are getting better and better, have even more precision. Both the dry and the noble sweet Rieslings from Schäfer-Fröhlich are the best in Germany.'
